An email question from Patty: I'm being flooded by catalogs and emails from Brocade Home. Do you have any information from people who've weighed in on the quality of their products? The photography is lovely, but I can't get a sense of how solid it looks and feels or, for example, whether their dining room chairs are comfortable and sturdy feeling. Any information would be welcome. Thanks.

We get their catalogs too. I am pretty sure Brocade Home is owned by Restoration Hardware (Like Pottery Barn and West Elm are owned by Williams-Sonoma Inc.) Restoration Hardware's quality is hit or miss. Some items we have bought are well built and will last generations, but we returned a fireplace screen because it was so flimsy and cheap.

I bought one of their silver scrolly wall shelves (48"). It's okay, not the greatest quality - I'm sure I'll get a decade out of it before I drop something on it and break off a corner or get bored with it.

I purchased a bed from Brocade Home for my guest room. The bed has since met some "heftier" folk, and hasn't had a problem yet. I wouldn't say its HIGH quality stuff, but certain better than an Ikea, CB2, or West Elm. At $499 for the queen size, I'm definitely impressed with it.

I ordered the hand carved white bed in white and a white chandelier from Brocade Home. I would say the quality is middle of the road but for me I was willingly to pay the price for something different. I didn't want to pay virtually the same price for pieces at pottery barn, west elm, etc's to have the same look as everyone else. I am happy with both though there is one place on the bed where the paint is chippy (will need to seal it).
I got them for my daughter's room and it makes me happy each time I walk in there - so definitely worth it to me.

Asking someone else if a chair is comfortable is (to me) like asking someone if a pair of shoes is...

I do enjoy that catalog -- it makes me want to own a nail salon and do it all up with their stuff and just sit around and be girly. Haven't ever touched any of it in person, so can't actually answer the question, but thought it would be worth knowing that the current issue of lucky magazine has a discount code in it that is good for 25% off everything at brocade home (don't know how long it's good for). Don't have mine handy, but look in the back few pages under "lucky breaks."

I had HORRIBLE experiences with them!! i ordered a ton of furniture through them and almost EVERYTHING arrived broken. I had them take back most of the pieces. And then the replacements arrived broken too! In fact, one was the original piece which they just tried to "fix" and send back to me. They had to send a "furniture doctor" to repair two of the pieces that they sent as well.
Seriously, AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID.

Don't blame delivery failures on the company from which you order. Reliable delivery is a HUGE problem at EVERY pricepoint in the business. I had a furniture doctor sent from Bloomingdales for a Ralph Lauren table.
And don't slam a company that has reliably worked with you to make problems right. That's just not fair.

We ordered a lace-cute media storage unit, and have been very happy with it. It took quite a while to arrive (it was back-ordered, then seemed to take a loooong time to get from warehouse to our house), but was worth the wait. So overall, we're very happy and getting tons of compliments on it.
