CHI Good Questions: Headboard Search

ironbed071808.jpgCourtney sent in a good question: We moved into a great new place last year, on the top floor of a mid-century three flat. But since our box spring couldn't make the last tricky hallway turn, we've been sleeping on a six inch mattress on the floor ever since. We're FINALLY getting a latex mattress and a split box spring, so I've been on the hunt for the perfect bed. Good news is that I found it! Bad news is, someone else already snapped it up from the Craigslist ad.

I've been combing the internet trying to find something similar, but everything I've found so far has four posters (deal breaker for me) or gratuitous use of curlicues (deal breaker for the boy). What I love so much about this bed is that it's soft and unique without being overwrought (if you'll pardon the pun). So I'm hoping the shopping savvy of ATers can help here. Finish doesn't matter - we're not afraid to break out the Rustoleum (or have it powdercoated, if need be). It's the shape and feel of this one that I'm after. Can you help me have sweet dreams?

Can anyone help Courtney out with a good resource for a similar headboard?

I had my bed custom made a few years ago at this store outside of Philly. They have endless designs and finishes, and I got exactly what I wanted.

How much did you want to spend? If you're searching CL, you might be on a budget (like everybody else!) but Anthropologie has some cute iron / vintage beds, like this one. If I had the money, I'd be sleeping on it!

Wow, kind of a rush to see your own question up. :) Doogle, we are indeed looking for a queen, and that listing is a great option. pnkseashel, the service appears to have gone out of business (their site is redirected). But thank you so much for the idea.

ccull, we're definitely on a budget (and isn't everyone, these days?). Searching CL is a daily habit (and I did manage to snap up that orange tufted armchair listed in the scavenger a few days ago - go me), and I'm hoping to find something with comparable pricing. "Hope" being the operative root word there, as I don't think it's going to happen. (BTW, I've been drooling over the Anthro bed you listed - as well as their Chinoiserie bed - for ages. I just wish the price tags had one less place before the decimal.)

Brandy, we're in Evergreen Park, a flat mile from city limits. Our building is actually connected to a house, which sounds odder than it is. :) The entire structure sticks out like a sore thumb - the streets are full of Bungalows, Colonials, and Cape Cods, making the huge window banks and clean lines of our complex seem a little alien. We love it. Each unit has its own charm - the convertible garden unit is sunken, with an exposed-brick back wall; the second floor one-bedroom has planked ceilings and windowed closets, and our two-bedroom has grid woodwork in the entryway, two windowed walls in every room but the bathroom, and sloping ceilings that create wonderful angles. Plus, we can climb out onto the house's roof from our living room. :)

Thanks for all the help, everyone. (And any more will be much appreciated!)

Humble Abode's got a few similar headboards - here's one that's not exact, but sorta "soft" and not overly cute for the bf.

Good luck with the search though - that's a gorgeous design.

Keep looking - these guys pop up every now and again, there will be another. Set up an RSS feed on Craigslist so you know you won't miss anything - search something like "antique bed" and click the RSS link that comes up at the bottom of the page. You can then add that search to your Google homepage, so you'll see new ads throughout the day without clicking over to CL & without missing anything good. I'm searching for the perfect daybed this way - saves TONS of clicking, and you see things right away when they come up. Good luck!

tequila red, that's a great idea, thanks. Sure beats searching daily, and pouring through listings that may have nothing relevant. I'm glad to hear that this one ad wasn't an exclusive occurrence (and therefore a completely elusive item).

ggbeans, The Boy vetoed that one (I think he's opposed to the lyre shapes), but what that site is a great resource! We like this one a lot:

With the mattress set purchase, it's a little out of budget (much like the Anthro beds). And I don't like it quite as much as the one that got away. :) I keep thinking that it must be nuts to hunt down a bed like this, but I just love it.
