CHI Good Questions: Kelly Green Accents?

2008-03-25-kelly.jpgLesley sent us a good question: I'm just starting to redecorate my living room. The furniture includes black sofas, an eileen grey side table, and a lucite coffee table. I was hoping to add some kelly green accents - maybe an area rug or some lamp shade or other odds and ends (a throw blanket). I started looking around but I can't seem to find much in kelly green (as opposed to sage or lime or other shades). I was hoping you could help.

Lesley, you are right on trend! The photo above is from the new issue of Domino, which features kelly green with black and white as a color combo.

Heather Amuny-Dey has some great prints featuring kelly green with b&w - one is shown here, and the price is right at $40.

Can anyone recommend some other accent pieces in this color? Please let Lesley know in the comments below...

I'm pretty sure that American Apparel makes a Kelly Green throw blanket. Its made out of jersey / sweatshirt material, very soft!

You could try searching Ebay and sort by color. Also depending on how crafty you are you could purchase kelly green fabric and make your own throw pillows or paint some flower pots kelly green. Plants themselves like potted palms would also provide pops of color.

Pottery Barn has some things (pictures frames, lamps) in green right now. Not sure if its quite the green shade you are looking for, but it's pretty cute stuff.

Hi, this is my first post here but I have been a regular visitor for quite some time. I took some photos this morning after seeing your post. We have an accent wall among other furniture I custom painted in our living room that’s kelly green and we love the color. It’s been like this for over a year and we haven’t gotten sick of it yet. The photos are on my flickr.

Just walked by crate and barrel on michigan ave last night and everything was green! Didn't go in and look, but as I recall most things were more kelly green than earthier colors.

I think using paint to create your own accents would be the cheapest and most versatile option. Like painting an accent wall, or buying a stencil and using the paint to add the stencil in various places. Or as others suggested, painting lamp bases, etc.

I am in love with this green rug from Jonathan Adler. We are waiting for construction to finish on our new condo. I'm also planning on doing kelly green accents in our new place. http://www.jonathanadler.com/shop/product.php?productid=17358&cat=253&page=1

Maybe some vintage fiesta ware? Also try ebay and search "green vase" or "green bowl" or "green lamp" etc.
