CHI Good Questions: Where Can I Find a (real) Red Blanket?

2008-06-11-redblanket.jpgKristin is looking for some shopping suggestions: "I'm about to go crazy -- I never thought finding a red blanket would be so difficult. Not maroon, not burgundy, not raspberry. Red!"

Where can I find a simple, light blanket like the one pictured in this photo from the 10 Cent Designer?"

Please add your red blanket suggestions and sources to the comments below for Kristin - thanks!

I found my red coverlet set at Target. It's made by Fieldcrest and I think its official color is "Paprika" in the store. They have a lot of solid red bedspreads on the website.

The Company Store has a simple cotton basketweave blanket in cardinal red:

though the one in your photo looks thicker, more like a bedspread.

I have a beautiful tomato red cotton fleece blanket I got from Cuddledown. It looks like they don't carry that color any longer, but Garnet Hill has something similar:

That's not really red in the image above, that's an orange-red.

Red (leaning slightly to the orange side) brushed cotton blanket:

Basket weave cotton, less saturated:

This quilt is reversible, from red or orange and the red appears on my monitor to be very similar to that in the photo:
http://www.thecompanystore.com/parent/Quilts Bed Covers/7520/CV66X/

Another nicely textured blanket, this one much less saturated and more muted:

You'll find a lot more RED red around Christmas, as well as other jewel tones. But it will be that holiday red without much orange, and won't be the color I am seeing on my monitor in the picture that is provided.

I would try Target or Walmart if you have them in your area. I was looking for hot pink once and there was a lot at Walmart, not at other places I looked.

I saw a couple of options at places like LL Bean and Land's End. The one that seemed the closest to the photo was Land's End Supima Cotton Textured Blanket in Creole Red http://www.landsend.com/pp/SupimaCottonTexturedBlanket~118261_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::COX&CM_MERCH=IDX_00005__0000000262&origin=index

I own a Garnett Hill red cotton fleece blanket that is really red. http://www.garnetthill.com/jump.jsp?itemID=5759&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C5%2C9020%2C9038&iProductID=5759

It is also machine washable.

Fairbault makes a machine- washable merino wool blanket in bright red:

Faribault blankets are great quality, and they're made in the U.S.

I got a true red medium weight cotton blanket (Lauren by Ralph Lauren) at Macy's, which I use on my sofa. I got it a couple years ago, but perhaps it is still available.

red in the bed's not the best color according to Feng Shui (unless you're trying to fix a division between a king size bed)... usually it causes a heightened sense of passion at first, but then it creates animosity within a couple.

unless i've missed it, but i'm surprised no one has commented on the room in the photo as a great use of color. Rather simple - a throw/blanket and a couple of complementing pillows - but has great visual impact.

I ran into the exact same problem. I found a plain red quilt at target.

While we're on the subject of color... Does anybody know where I can fine Orange towels. Not rust, not mellon but bright caution cone orange. Why are basic colors so hard to find?

I don't know if they still have them, but I got bright orange towels at Ikea.

I found a LOT at Walmart (to them this summer means bright yellow, orange and lime green). I don't know about fine though... they were PHINE enough for me. As far as towels go (use'em, throw'em away within 3-4 months) I think 5 bucks each are way worth it.
