Good Question: Best Photo Site?

2007-05-11-moo.jpg

A question to the group from Pauline: "What is the best photo sharing site? I'm looking to print notecards and found Shutterfly to be the least expensive, but what about quality? How do Snapfish, Kodak Share Gallery, Moo cards, etc., compare?"

We've never had notecards printed from photos, so we have to hand this one over...Can anyone make a recommendation for Pauline?

i swear by ofoto.com and overnightprints.com for all that sorta stuff... ofoto (kodak) just has the better quality and is inexpensive. overnightprints.com i've used for postcards, business cards, etc. they're inexpensive, very fast, and the quality has always been good.

I have found that all of the sites above, their quality is crap. Kodak purchased an independent small group that started this whole thing a few years ago. I printed photo albums with them and I could live with it (I wish they were better, but they were not terrible) I tried Kodak, bcs they purchased their site (the name escapes) and the contents, so my photos where there, and I started printing with them. I can not even begin to share my dissappointment. I tried shutterfly, their printing wasn't too bad, but the paper felt cheap. So the way I do it now, is I just go to a local printer who does a FANTASTIC job, not cheap, but I rather have the quality of the product, then the other way around.

I use Kodak Photo Gallery, it's easy and convenient, though I'm not a photofile that can speak to differences in quality. Flickr also started a printing service recently.

we're about to use mypublisher.com based on some nice results we've seen from friends. Feels like quality - we all wonder if the colors will fade over time, but heck, for the price, who cares?

I've only had good experiences with Shutterfly. We used them twice, once to print 400 photos and then to put together an album of our honeymoon. No complaints whatsoever.

I've used websites to print photos for everything from standard family shots in small frames at home to some of my photo prints in exhibitions. I've tried several, and most of the ones listed above are extremely disappointing. I was underwhelmed with Snapfish and Shutterfly, two of the services I first tried. They do decent work if you just want to print out snapshots, but the color consistency tends to be somewhat awful if you start making larger photos. In my experience, Adorama is my go to. They handle colors very well, and let you self-crop each photo (important if you're using a digital camera, since many digital files don't match up to traditional print ratios). I've also had good luck with Printroom.com.

Specifically regarding photocards, I have yet to find a site that does simple, photo-only cards (as opposed to some that have weird PrintShop esque banners and graphics included on the front) of high quality. I tried to order photo cards from a site called Winkflash, and they were terrible (great customer service though, when I asked to send them back). Now I order 4x6 or 5x7 prints of my photos from Adorama, buy cardstock from Papersource, and make my own photo cards. It really makes an enormous difference to print on quality photo paper, instead of cardstock. They look lovely and professional, and your recipient can remove the photo from the card and frame it up, if they're so inclined.

I prefer MPix for all printing. It's a division of a larger imaging company for professional photographers. For just sharing with family/friends, I use Kodak Gallery.

I have used iprintfromhome.com for prints and slides from digital images, and the quality is GREAT. Exhibition quality prints, if you send them a quality file. The shipping is reasonable, turnaround is reasonable, and quality well worth it. I can't remember if they do cards and other type of things, but their photo quality is great.

If you're interested in cards, I use KodakGallery.com because they have some pretty cool designs like accordion fold cards that stand up, cards that fold into envelopes, mini note cards, etc. Paper and print quality is really good.

For absolutely brilliant quality cards (which you can frame) try:
http://www.redbubble.com.au/people/mswift/portfolio
also prints.

And for prints:
http://durella.imagekind.com
Excellent paper choices and if you want many, many framing choices, only top quality here.
