Good Question Revisted: Claire's Window Solution

Back in November, we posted this photo as part of a good question from Claire. You may remember that she lives in a garden level space and was hoping to obscure the view into the apartment, while allowing the cats to continue to enjoy their favorite world watching spot. Well...she took the AT readers advice to heart and sent us a great follow-up email over the break. Jump below for photos and her feeedback:

Hi Janel,
Thanks for posting my question on a window treatment for Apartment Therapy readers to weigh in with their advice. I just wanted to let you know what I ended up doing: I took the advice of the commenter, theluckiestash, who understood what living in a fishbowl is like, and I put up some blik decals. (See photos.)

We'll see how this goes, I might change my mind and opt for the suggestion of homebody and use some plasticor as hanging panels. And if it weren't for an oath I took, for my husband, not to bring more Japanese stuff into the house (we've got a ton already and he's not a huge fan), the shoiji screen idea from JG was terrific too.

In the end, I collected more ideas in one day than I'd have come up with on my own in one month! Thanks again.

Another idea might be to hang curtians from one of those arced shower curtain rods, leaving a comfortable "tent" for the cats. Even sheers that let in a lot of light would obscure the interior from outside.

We have shades in the bedroom and the kitties just push them aside and sit on the sill, letting the shade hit their backs. I bet if you put up sheers, your kitty would do the same and you'd have even more privacy. Though you'd have to lint roll the window-side of the curtains every few weeks. But it's worth it for the kitties!

I get the feeling that an overzealous (and normal-clawed) kitty might get too shred-happy with a sheer curtain, no? Otherwise, that was my first instinct, as well.

We had the same problem. Our solution was to put up curtain sheers. And we tied up a little corner up so the cats could get past to the sill. Works to let the light in and the cats on the window.

Yes, thank you Claire for the follow-up. I think the decals are great and the red not only goes with the couch but the passers-by will be looking at the decals and not into the room.
