Good Questions: Affordable Alternatives to Curvy Table?

table051209.jpg Arlene sent in a good question for the crowd: I absolutely love this table, it is from Room Service Home and is $299. I would like to use 2 of them as a coffee table, but they are pretty expensive. Does anyone know of a less expensive alternative? I really like the curvy legs...color isn't important, although I would love white or this green...

That table is awesome. I'd love to hear about less expensive alternatives, myself. Would make great nightstands!

I would buy two of those little square tables from ikea and nail on some wood trim to make it curvy.. a little wood putty and some paint.. voila! just saved $550.

This ikea one is not quite what you want but its certainly much cheaper, and also in yellow.

Actually, ikea has legs that are somewhat similar to those.

You could grab a table top of your choice to match. If you got something that is wood, you could paint it all the same color, seal it and wah-lah, probably about 75 bucks versus the 299 price tag of that one.

Good luck!

Though I did just realize that it is the table that is curvy, not the legs. But it would allow you a similar style. :)

I was going to suggest customising two Ikea Lack tables but antimatt got there first! It would be pretty easy though.

The Trollsta table from Ikea might be an alternative. It isn't exactly the same, but it has the same feel. And only $79. Comes in yellow and black.

If you are crafty and have a jigsaw, you might be able to make something similar using thrift store tables or something and add the cutouts? I suppose it would take some time to do, though. But cheaper than the $300!

I was going to recommend that Trollsta table too, it looks great in real life although the bow in the legs might mean you couldn't push two flush together to act as one coffee table.

If you couldn't push the two Trollsta table exactly together for a coffee table, you could position them about 1' apart and join them with a glass or painted-to-match tabletop.

Find a pal with a jigsaw, a nailgun and some skills...

...with a 4x8 sheet of MDF, some woodglue, some paint and a 6 pack of beer you could DIY several of these tables.

Funny, I purchased a table almost exactly like this (different feet) on clearance at a TJ Maxx/Home Goods store about 2 months ago for $25.00. The finish was scratched up, so I sanded it down and lacquered it black. I really liked the curved apron, and I couldn't pass it up at that price.

Go to
http://www.treadwaygallery.com/unsold.php?s=1&auctionID=11
see lot 1164. It's $200 and it may be big enough on it's own for use as a coffee table?!?

Yup, Pier 1 is definitely the way to go here.

Actually the Trollsta has to be assembled, so you could leave the middle two legs off or attach them slightly differently for more support. Maybe screw them together horizontally?

Let us know what you end up doing!

I think you can always find a great small table somewhere for less than $300.

If there's any chance you're still checking this post...

Go to One Kings Lane! This week they're featuring Jardins en Fleur, and in particular, a table that is VERY similar (if not cuter) than what you have pictured. It's selling for $149. They also have a coffee table version for $299!

You have to be a member of the site to shop- if you aren't already, get in touch with me and I'll send you an invite. :)

To Whom this may concern,

I am writing to let you know that I am furious to discover that what I thought was a great service -- limited quantities of overstock at a deeply discounted price -- is merely a sham. Today I ordered the Henckles knife set (see order confirmation below), only to discover that the same set is offered on Amazon.com for $199.00 with free shipping. $52.95 less, or fully 25% less than what I paid you.

I want you to know that I will never recommend your site to anyone, I will never purchase from you again, and I will actively post about my experience on every design blog I can find, especially Apartment Therapy, where I first read about your site.

You're just a rip-off with a fancy wrapper. Thanks for nothing.

SINCERELY,
-Kim Grant
