Whitney sent us an email: I love the look of this table top and legs at IKEA. I've been looking for a unique (and cheap!) dining table for our apartment. Does anyone know if this would work for that? Is it sturdy, a good size, etc?

I would not recommend this table. Every time I have seen it from afar at Ikea, it looks great, but when you get up close you will quickly see the numerous scratches on the the table top surface.

I love that table too. If the surface scratches easily, you can always pair are more durable Ikea table top with those same legs and achieve a similar effect. I plan to do this and use it as a desk.

That's funny: I plan on using it for a desk too! I also didn't want the metal top, though - scratches AND fingerprints.

This is my desk! It is perfect for blending traditional with a twist, curved like an antique, but with modern steel. I too did not like the steel top so I paired it with the white laquer top. The white top isn't drilled to go with these legs, but its an easy fix with the power drill.

I have the white top/short legs as my coffee table. It's pretty durable, but the legs scratch easily and I would imagine the steel top would too.

This is exactly what I wanted when we got a new dining table for our apt. When I looked at it in the store though, it became clear that it really wouldn't work. It was all scratched up - and not like the distressed, casual stainless steel tables that they have in restaurants. It looked really bad. It is also really narrow. I do think it would make a fine desk though. I was really bummed about it because I loved the look of it in the catalog. We ended up getting the melltorp table. It has been great (and its only $70)

I have this exact setup as a desk. It definitely scratches easily but at this point mine is SO scratched that its sort of evenly covered and just looks well loved. Its sturdy but (in my opinion) nowhere near large enough for a dining room table.

You could also get a piece of thinnish glass cut to size for fairly cheap. That way, you don't ruin the look and the surface is much more durable.

We have this as our dining room table, but with the dark brown top. It's just me and my husband in an apt. so it's pretty much the perfect size for our dining nook. It's pretty narrow so it can technically fit 4 people (measured by 4 placemats) but as long as you don't really have any food served on the table at the same time. The plates on the mats will fit obviously, but not like a big dish of anything to serve if there are 4 at the table. Make sense?

The size is great for a small space. Like splim, I would cover it with a glass top. Quarter-inch glass would work fins since it is fully supported.

I bought different legs (the square ones) but the same table top- its the desk in my home office I'm using right now. I love it actually, and its super easy to clean.
I dont recall if there is a different size table than this one- if there is nevermind, but its a desk sized tabletop, I think sitting with more than a couple of people for a meal at this thing would seem pretty awkward.
and 'imavunderbrah'- same with mine. The scratches at first pissed me off every day, after awhile they have just sorta made themselves into a new finish.

i have the legs attached to a dark wood table top which i'm pretty sure did not come from ikea (got the whole package free off of craigslist) - and i use it as my work space for my in-home tattoo studio. i love it, i think it's simple and sleek looking. my set-up is sturdy, but i'm not using it for dining so i'm not sure. in terms of the height, i think it would work well. hell, i just like the look of the thing.

Please be aware that those legs are meant to be used for a desk meaning that it will be lower than a standard dining table which means if you use standard dining chairs, it might feel odd and your legs will be close to the table top.

I REALLY lusted for this table at first glance.... but the Ikea store is an honest place... wear happens and you get to see a piece's future... it just feels and looks flimsy/junky up close, wouldn't pass muster for a second next to the luxe DWR counterpart... I don't think you'll be happy with it
I do love Ikea though, the idea is great

I had planned on getting this as a desk when we moved this summer - until I saw it in the store. I think the legs look really cheap in person - not fun and glamorous like they look online.

Thanks for posting this. I haven't seen it before, but this would make a great desk, as everyone above has said.

I too loved this look but on closer inspection; the legs are powder coated steel (grey paint). I passed on the legs. I still love the top (scratches and all).

I have these legs on a table we built using the headboard from an Ikea bed. I have never had a problem with at least the legs, for what it's worth. I love them, actually.

we love this... we use it as our kitchen table.
and use a stainless steel polish on it.
haven't seen too many scratches yet.
we purchased the vika inge legs instead:

I just bought 5 of these tables. I love the look of them! I am not worried about scratching, as I have a steel table I bought at the Conran shop years ago that is scratched and it looks like a patina. The cool thing about these tables is I bought all 5 for less than the price I paid for the Conran table. The bad thing is that the predrilled holes are not made for the table top, which makes no sense to me since they show the metal curved legs with the metal tabletop in the catalog and stores. I emailed Ikea since I don't have a power drill and have no idea how to use one! Maybe I will have a handyman come over and do it. It just sucks cuz it is such a gorgeous look but it cannot be assembled the way it comes.
