Good Questions: Help! Roofer Recommendations?

8-24-07roofdamage.jpg Our very own Jessica is in need of your help! Here's her question...

There's no doubt that you saw some of the storm from last night (Thursday). My 16-unit condo building on the northside of Chicago suffered some pretty serious roof damage.

A good portion of our roof (and brand new gutter system) basically peeled away due to the rain, wind (and tornado?). Our rooftop air-conditioners are all helter-skelter and we are seeking a "reliable roofer" immediately. I mean, STAT. We're hoping readers can help out with referrals.

Any roofer recommendations for Jessica?

we used "raincoat roofing systems" to replace the roof on our condo building (smaller than yours) a few years ago. at the time, their bid was competitive and so far, the work seems fine. http://www.raincoatroofing.com/
good luck.

Make sure you contact the insurer for your condo building immediately.

Your condo association should have insurance that covers damage like this, and that insurance company may well have opinions about how you should repair the damage and who you should work with. If you hire someone to fix it yourself without giving them a chance to comment on who you use and what gets done, you could be in for a nasty surprise when they refuse to pay for the repairs.

That sucks Jessica. Sorry to hear about your roof. I would second what elvedon said. You need to be sure you deal with your insurance company quickly before you do anything else.

Luckily we made it through the storm without damage, but the trees in the neighborhood didn't do so well.

Jessica - I've used Lindholm Roofing. They are professional, fully licensed and insured and do commerical & residentail props. Of course, for all of that piece of mind, you pay a higher price but it's your house so going with a quality, established contractor is the best way to go. Good luck! Sorry to see/hear about your sitch.

Thanks for the help, everyone! We did call our insurance company right away and it looks like Lindholm Roofing will be fixing the roof this week. I haven't heard much grumbling from my neighbors so I hope that means nothing (on the inside) was damaged from the storm. But, walking around my neighborhood on Friday morning, I see that we were actually pretty lucky. We saw another building where the entire roof collapsed!
