Good Questions: How Can I Decorate Slanted Walls?

051707vynil.jpg

Dear AT,

I live in this amazing early 19th century home. My apartment in on the top floor which means I have a bunch of slanted walls due to the roof. I can't paint them because it's an old house and I'm renting. How can I decorate these walls? Help!

Thanks!
Katie

Dear Katie,

We browsed around AT, and if you aren't overly sick of the wall decal trend, that's a good route to take for slanted walls. Last year AT:NY posted a list of top ten list of wallpaper and graphics (pictured above: Vynil Wall Graphics), and here at AT:Chicago we've also profiled some great ideas for walls including Art Diffusion panels and blik wall graphics (here and here).

Good luck! Any other ideas out there for slanted walls (no paint allowed)?

fabric panels, attached to the slanted walls at the top and bottom of the fabric, can add color to the walls w/o paint

the easiest way to do that would be to make pockets on each end - either sew these or use iron-on interfacing - then slip a thin wooden dowel through each pocket and attach to the wall with cup hooks

If you find a fabric you like, you can soak it in liquid starch and smooth it up the wall like wallpaper. It pulls right off when you're over it or ready to file for your deposit refund.

-Best checked on a hidden piece of wall first.
