Matt sent us a good question: I am a good accountant, but inept at interior design. I just bought a one bedroom condo at Marina City in Chicago which needs to have some work done (replace bathroom, open up the bedroom, flooring and lighting). I saw a good example of a room on your site, but don't think I could repeat it. Can you recommend any interior designers who could assist?
Matt, we've addressed this question before on AT, and we've covered a few different routes you can take. For starters, sites such as the Merchandise Mart's designer portfolio and the Franklin Report offer reliable listings. It sounds like you have some extensive remodeling to do, so we suggest that you look for a designer that has a strong background in interior architecture. When browsing portfolios, look for previous rehab and remodeling projects that will give you a sense of their expertise. Apartment Therapy also lists interior designers in our service guide.
On a more specific note, one of our Smallest Coolest Contest winners, Stephanie, lives in Marina City. She made great use of her studio apartment and we definitely recommend checking out her space for floor plan ideas.
Other suggestions for Matt?

I studied Interior Architecture at SAIC (though I no longer live in Chicago) so I know plenty of great designers. Depending on how much work you want to do and what you're looking to spend, I could offer you some great recommendations and contact information

I work in the Career Services dept at The Illinois Institute of Art Chicago which offers a bachelor's degree in Interior Design. You can post this job at http://www.artinstitutes.edu/CareerServices/ForEmployers.aspx
My co-worker can help you find a well qualified candidate for the job.
Just another option!

I'd recommend Hudson Home (www.hudsonhomeinc.com) for a design project that will include some construction. They have licensced interior designers and architects and are design-build, so they manage the construction aspect as well.
