Good Questions: "Might as well buy green..."

2007-04-30-diningquestion.jpgTiffany sent us an email: Do you, or any readers, have any experience with www.eco-furniture.com? (I'm looking at the mezzanine dining chairs and table) I'm nervous to purchase something like furniture online, and I can't find any reviews.
Can you recommend furniture stores in Chicago-if there are any-that are eco-friendly? We need new dining chairs so I figured we might as well buy green...Thanks!

We have not had experience with eco-furniture.com, but we were impressed with the HUGE selection of items they offer. We're hoping to hear more from readers. Another good online selection is available at Vivavi.

A few eco-friendly resources in Chicago: Verde, located at 2100 W. Armitage, offers their own line of sustainable design, as well as some vintage pieces that have been redone - such as a set of Paul Mc Cobb chairs (shown in the photo above the jump).

Pacifica Furniture Co. is located at 2023 W. Carroll Ave. in Chicago. Pete Realmuto produces new furniture, custom work and also does vintage restoration using eco-friendly materials.

Readers, let us know...how is eco-furniture.com? Also, any other suggestions for eco-friendly furniture in Chicago to share?

Do you know anything about the forest on the wall behind the chair? I just love it!

"Woods" by walnut wallpaper. I think the website is www.walnutwallpaper.com. Love it, a bit pricey I think...

Hmmm, am I missing something? I flipped through eco-furniture's website and, while there's quite a bit of re-pasted lecture material from many previously published sources, there's little or nothing available about the resources used to make the advertised furniture and the majority just duplicate the offerings from my local mass retailer (who, I can assure you, is not buying eco friendly products). I don't have any resources for you in Chicago, as I'm on the Left Coast, but I'd urge you to dig deeper if you're shopping with a retailer that's using eco in its name. Ensure what you're buying is coming from FSC managed forestry (for wood products), that plastics and glass are post-consumer recycled, that upholstery materials are organic, etc.
