Good Questions: Pink Sofa or Wingchairs?

dale092208.jpgKelly is looking for some opinions: I desperately wanted a pink couch, much like the one attached (from Domino magazine). Sadly, the couch was out of my price range and I could not find a suitable substitute..

wingbackchairs092208.jpgI am considering purchasing the chairs attached. What type of couch would coordinate with the chairs? Or should I keep looking for that perfect pink sofa?

What do you think? Please share your opinion on the pink wingchairs - are they a yes or should Kelly hold out for a pink sofa?

i love your quest. however, since any pink sofa you get won't be part of the set above, you'll only find sofas of a slightly different hue. you gotta ask yourself if you'll be ok with that.

Why not get the perfect used sofa and reupholster it?

What's the condition on the chair upholstery? The chairs are great, but without any sense of what your space is like, it's hard to suggest whether you should keep hunting for the sofa. And if the fabric is really shot, what's the point of settling for chairs when you really wanted a couch?

Sounds like what you want is 1) pink 2) sofa and that's what you should stick with.

Unless the chairs are really cheap, are in great condition, and you can do without the sofa for a while. :-)

I think it really depends on the floor plan for your space. If you can put in two chairs for the sofa and have the room work the way you want it, I'd do it. Especially if the chairs are cheap and can be repurposed/reupholstered for another room in the house if you do find the perfect pink sofa.

Or, if buying the pink chairs means that you'll end up getting a different sofa (something to coordinate, floral etc) then you need to be sure that's something you really want and something you can find/afford.

So if you just want pink in your room that's affordable, buy the chairs. If you really want a pink sofa, wait.

I think if you purchased those chairs and then found a similar style sofa in a vanilla color, that would be fantastic! Pinks and reds are hard to match closely, but you will get the same feel with the pale pink chairs and soft vanilla sofa.

I'd say if a pink sofa is what you really want, get a pink sofa. I don't know about you, but I have a hard time settling in regards to anything I shop for, and a couch is something you will live with for quite some time.

I think kimg924's suggestion of reupholstering a used couch is great.

Have you tried a custom furniture store? In Chicago we have Walter E Smithe and Crate & Barrrel also does upholstery.

I love those chairs - I'd snap 'em right up...

...and coordinate with a sofa in a spring green fretwork fabric (you're more likely to a sofa in Green than Pink)

BTW - For some coordinating draperies, check these out:

Have fun!

Heather - that's what I was thinking when I pictured vanilla with pink. Now I want strawberry shortcake.

The Ikea Ektorp sofa and armchairs come in a soft pink. They aren't quite that style, but you might be able to customize it a bit: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79849311

Oh, and my other advice is be aware that wing chair sizes vary quite drastically- if you are purchasing from a photo, make sure to check them out in person to confirm they will work in your space. I had one that was very cumbersome, but recently bought a pair on craigslist that were a much more versatile size.

I had a light pink sofa once - it quickly got filthy - not from people but simply from the dust in air if I opened a window. It was impossible to keep clean. It was a disaster. Be forewarned.

Thanks to all for the comments and suggestions.

My original plan was to get the pink couch and then to get off-white chairs.

I went to view the Craigslist chairs and decided to buy them - so I will revise my plan and search for an off-white couch. The chairs were really well made, really sturdy and selling for next to nothing, so (with my empty living room...) it was hard to say no!

Thanks again for the advice!
