Paige, an AT: San Francisco devotee, has a question for our Chicago readers:
Can anyone recommend or attest to the quality of the CB2 lubi daybed or comment on the quality of CB2 couches, chairs or beds?
My husband and I are eager to find a better-than-a-futon solution for our office/guest bedroom, and this looks ideal.

CB2 doesn't have any stores by us, and I don't have any way to feel the quality, firmness or comfort of the foam used in the daybed.
Thanks for your help!
Paige
Dear Paige-
We're not familiar with the quality of this specific daybed. We are, however, a little wary of the fold-out foam mattress. It's probably fine for limited use (such as infrequent house guests) but if one were to sleep on it nightly, it might not last too long. We also worry that the half of the double foam pad which sits directly on the floor might start to sink or sag more quickly than the half with the wooden frame and legs.
But, again, this is all speculation!
AT: Chicago, can any of you speak from recent CB2 experience?
Paige,
I cannot attest to the quality of the Lubi daybed but I can relate to your search for a "better than a futon" solution.
I was originally going to buy this one:
http://www.apt-ny.com/lubi/colors.htm
from apt because they have such a wide range of colors and the piece suits our style a little bit better. Unfortunately, thanks to the New York Times and maybe AT, they sold out of every color except for the orange one! That means we would have to wait 8 weeks or more for one to be delivered.
So, we found another nice option. This one is from Tiny Living:
http://www.tinyliving.com/store/product/2019/swivel-sofa-sleeper%2C-gray/
I will post a photo soon. With both of these products we decided we would purchase without feeling the quality of the piece.
As long as the fabric is of decent quality and the piece functions smoothly, that was good enough for us. The price point is pretty reasonable, in my opinion, for a functional piece of furniture. And in the case of the Tiny Living, the piece which we purchased, the quality is not the best, but for a second bedroom/study/entertainment room, the size and functionality is perfect and it is definitely comfortable enough to lounge on and for sleeping two people. It really is a fun piece.

Paige,
I've put the Lubi through the ringer over the last two months and here is the report...
My Lubi has seen everyday use as a couch, including frequent naps, and has seen 3 or 4 overnight guests.
The Cushion is firm and has, to this point, shown no signs of degrading. My guests have reported restful nights.
In my opinion, the Lubi would be a great solution for your needs, but I would be remiss if I failed to mention its one drawback. The covering is slightly elastic, but generally stretches less than the cushion gives. Eventually, the covering starts to look a little wavy because of the stress put on the fabric. Typically, I just smooth the "waves" with my hands, but after a year or of heavy use, I'd imagine the removable cover will have to be dry cleaned to restore its original shape.

We have the CB2 daybed, I like it. It gets used 2-3 times a week and seems to be holding up. The piece looks great in a small room and is very comfortable! Good luck, hope this helps....

I put a deposit down on the grey lubi from apt
http://www.apt-ny.com/lubi
They said it is arriving by the end of September as well as 3 other colors.
Their version has nicer legs and the bottom half has springs so it feels like a real mattress instead of the hard wooden platform that cb2 has.
I still like the their lounge sofa bed which they had in stock in like 8 colors but my wife convinced me to get the lubi.

Thank you all! This is great feedback and exactly what I was hoping for - the good, the bad and the alternatives. I think we'll do it! D30 - thanks for the thorough run-down and the description of the fabric challenge. I also think it's great that apt-ny has the additional color and cover options, but I think I prefer the wood feet to the metal ones. Our apartment is more eclectic than modern, so the CB2 one is a better fit.
Many, many thanks!
Paige
