Good Questions: Review of "Spun" Lamp Knockoff?

Lindsey sent us a good question: I have always loved Sebastian Wrongs "Spun" lamp. I recently noticed on a site that someone is making a knockoff of it...for $390. Beats the heck out of $1800. It's in Miami. I was wondering if you could post up if anyone has seen it, or has bought it....

Anyone know of a reasonably priced version of this? say in the $150 range? I know CB2 had a version of this lamp about a year ago, it is now discontinued, and IKEA has one as well but the shade is tapered and kind of changes the look, does anyone have any alternate suggestions? thanks!

I have a cheap knockoff of the table version of this lamp from West Elm... I got it on clearance for like $40. It looks cheap. It was cheap. I am broke.

I think an argument can be made regarding "licensed" productions vs knock-offs for designs that 50, 60, 70 years old (just like books, music eventually move into the public domain). I don't see how to justify stealing designs from people who's current income is linked to their inventions, visions, ideas. Of course, you are free to say that you don't care...

I think their own website says it best:

"All of the furniture we ship is high-quality certified. We have set a very high standard of quality to keep increasing your customer experience, because we believe this is the best way for us to run our business."

Okay - not saying everyone has 1800$ to blow on a lamp -but here you clearly get what you pay for.

..high quality certified? ...increasing your customer experience? what the hell does that even mean?

Oh, and incidentally - further poking around on their site reveals photos stolen from places that sell licensed productions - so, what does that say about the confidence they have in their own pieces?

If you're from Minnesota they have the actual "spun" lamps all the time at the Room and Board Outlet for about $500 usually in perfect to almost perfect condition.
