Anna writes: In order to hasten paying off student loans, my hubby and I are taking the plunge and moving into a studio apartment this summer. Needless to say, our 82" sofa will not work in this space. After much hunting for a small sofa or settee that fits our budget we found the 48" Avington Settee from Target. There are no reviews...

I don't know anything about this item but I wouldn't buy any major furniture from Target. Do you have a Raymour and Flanigan near you? Their Nicole sofa looks similar and is probably of much better quality and will last a lot longer.

Target furniture is, I think, more disposable -- and less comfortable -- than Ikea. It's probably not where you want your tightly budgeted dollars to go.
EQ3 has a nice range of small, modern loveseats (though the smallest I saw was 57" -- but 2 people will have to be very, very friendly on 48" anyway :) you might want to check out: http://eq3.com/cat-eq3/scan/fi=products/st=db/co=yes/sf=inactive/tf=prodsort%2Csku/to=r/se=0/sf=category/se=loveseats/ml=16.html None of them are armless, if that was part of your plan?
Also, you didn't say how tight your budget is, so I'm not sure if the prices there are prohibitive -- they're certainly not high. Don't discount Craigslist either. You may be able to find something really quality for not a lot of money with some patience and perseverance.
Good luck!

The key question is whether the product is at a Target STORE or from the Target WEBSITE. Products in the stores, especially the furniture, are not going to be very high quality or very durable. However, the website is a completely different beast, offering a range of products, including some fairly high end modern/contemporary designs.

This is a darling couch. I've bought small chairs and a desk and tables from target, and they are quite disposable. I would definitely go to Ikea. Same price range as Target, but known for furniture.

Go on amazon and find similar items to the one you want. You might find something that has great reviews :)

I bought two of the Milano Espresso and Mocha Chairs from Target a year ago - one from the store and one online. The reviews were high, which influenced my decision. I've been very happy with them. They were easy to put together (I did it myself, and I'm not handy in any way), and they have held up well. They are not super comfortable, but a person can sit and read or talk with friends and they are fine. So, I wouldn't hesitate to buy furniture from them again.
Your settee looks easy to put together. The question would be comfort. If you can return it to a store, in case you're not happy with it, I'd go ahead with the purchase.

I second TallL's Craigslist comment. I got my Mitchell Gold sofa for $200.

I third the Craigslist comment. I got a 2 year old (barely used!) Room & Board sofa for $250 this fall.
And no one has said this yet, but I really commend your decision for downscaling to get those student loans payed off asap. You'll definitely thank yourself for it later!

Craigslist is a great way to go to get quality without a huge pricetag. I live in Brooklyn, so designer/nice things can be pricey, but I always see great prices on AT's Craigslist finds for Chicago (so much so that I get very jealous). I got a $1,500 CB2 sectional for $500 on CL and it is just about brand-spankin-new. I would take CL over Target anyday for big pieces.

Hello, everyone!
Thank you for your input and fantastic recommendations. I appreciate your time and help!
I was initially drawn to the settee for the dimensions. Our future apartment has a living area of 10' x 17', and we are hoping to create a tiny living space that still allows us space for our biggest obstacles: our 3 string basses (The hubs is a music teacher and I am a musician, so the basses must stay). I had been scouring other online stores and Craigslist with little luck, and the size and price of the Target settee made it seem like a reasonable backup. I haven't given up on the magic of Craigslist though!
After teaching all day my husband likes to take a few moments to kickback when he gets home, so comfort was our biggest concern after size. We were a bit wary of buying a piece of furniture without sitting on it- especially since the Target online furniture reviews seem very hit or miss.
Again, I appreciate everyone's feedback. It is super helpful.
~Anna
P.S. Miss*Lisa, Thank you!
