Courtney sent us an email: I'm desperately looking for concrete screen blocks similar to the picture I've attached...in any design, actually. I want to spray paint them and stack them to make a sweet mod-ish headboard for my bed. I live in Ann Arbor, MI, and I've been searching online, but to no avail!

I hope you are strong... that will be one HEAVY piece. What if a brick fell off and clubbed you while you slept?!
Perhaps you could have someone cut you a design like that into blocks of wood instead, they'd be easier to move and assemble.

You could try architectural salvage places. Here's one in Detroit: http://www.aswdetroit.org/
Have you checked the ReUse Center on Industrial Road? Even if you don't find these bricks you'll find lots of quirky used building materials there. The stock changes often.
I'd advise against trying to order large bricks like these online because of their probable high shipping costs.

While I agree, that a headboard made of concrete blocks sounds painfull ...Uncle Jack's Very Vintage Vegas blog

has good info on manufacturers and styles available.

If you were to find them online I'd be very afraid of the shipping cost.
That said, you can find them at your local brickyard. Just give them a call and make sure they will sell to the public.
Also, you may want to mortar them together so they do not fall over. But make sure the headboard is against a wall so that the whole headboard does not tip over. And, make sure the floor will not sag.

Have you tried calling Chelsea Lumber? They aren't far away and they are a huge dealer with a lot of stone places (Navastone, etc.) They might be able to order something for you and delivery was cheap if you need it.

I've had concrete block fall on me during an earthquake, and this is a really stupid idea. However, here are two sources.

I second the above concerns... how about stacking them for a bookshelf or something!

Sounds dangerous.

You might try calling Bestes lawn and garden supply. It would be kind of a haul for you - it is on Schoenherr in Warren but they had some concrete edging I wanted that no one else carries any more. They make it in-house. I can't remember seeing this particular item when I was there, but it would be worth calling to see if they make them or carry them. They've always been really nice and helpful there and if they didn't know, they might have some other suggestions.

Good luck.

It'd be much cheaper to buy a chic headboard than to pay the $25,000 hospital bill you'll get when that cement headboard falls on you some night when you get a little amorous....

Non-concrete alternative: How about mounting a collage of Art Blox from this etsy shop?:

Wow - I see danger written all over this one. Why not stencil the pattern you want on the wall?
