Good Questions: Space-Saving Sinks?

032007smallsink.jpg

Dear AT,

Since this is bathroom month, I need some good suggestions for a sink in a small space. We really got lucky with the rest of the bathroom. I really love the tile nooks in the wall, but the sink that's there doesn't fit with the rest of the room at all. It is way too low to the ground for me, so forget about my 6' 5" fiance. Like most people, we're tight on budget and would love some creative suggestions.

I'm excited to get some cool ideas from you folks!

Dear Alana,

032007basin.jpgBack in October, AT:NY posted a top ten list of space-saving sinks; we think that's a perfect place for you to start your hunt. You'll see there are only five starting out the list (including the Duravit Architec wall basin, pictured left), but we are hoping readers here in Chicago can help round out the list.

Can anyone recommend a fantastic space-saving sink to Alana??

Try Bellacor.com and the Rosanna sink. I just ordered it and it is so very small 11 3/4 radius. Check it out.

Try Ikea. They have a simple modern wall mount that can be used with a cabinet. If you use an Ikea cabinet, it's height adjustable as well (different leg heights). Max Gerber may surprise you with some of their prices as well. Always ask about floor model sales.

Thank you!!! I'm excited about the options already! I love the one shown in this post, actually. The side-mounted faucet is a cute touch. The man is very into the idea of a higher counter, but we also have a very short 5 year old as well. Perhaps some sort of hydraulic sink lift is in order. ;)

By the way, I feel compelled to note that we have not moved in yet. These are my house tour photos. The white plastic shower curtain and blue plastic rings *are not mine* :).

Thank you again for the ideas! I can't wait to get home and start shopping.

You might consider putting the sink at the standard height and installing a long, narrow shelf between the sink and the mirror. It could run all the way into the shower/tub and provide extra space to hold shampoo, etc. Glass or corian shelf would work well.

I LOVE the idea of the long shelf. That's one I'll absolutely use. Thanks!
