Cynthia recently wrote in with a doozy: In the 9/08 issue of Coastal Living magazine, on page 92 there is a rug I want desperately. The editor can't help me and I'm trying to determine what type of rug it is or who the manufacturer is. It's not listed in the "where to buy" section - it's a privately owned rug that was purchased a few years ago (per the editor). Can you help me?

I'm afraid you may be out of luck buying the same rug. It doesn't appear to be a mass-produced piece. I don't think it's an Indian Dhurrie but a Pakistani Bukhara. The Bukhara is one of the most popular types of rugs from Pakistan so if you print that picture and bring it to a rug dealer, he/she may be able to give you more specific guidance. That repeating rectilinear motif (or gul) says Pakistani to me. The Turkomans came up with that kind of design but the Pakistanis really took off with it. So if the rug dealer says it's Turkoman, they won't be that far off. Take the photo or email it to several different dealers so you can get a better consensus on the design source.

As Heather says... I really doubt you'll find this exact piece. Luckily, there are many rugs with similar patterns and colors available. You can oftentimes find rugs on ebay for really low prices. They are not antiques and the quality isn't as high, but the selection is usually fairly decent and turns over quickly.

Sorry, I forgot to mention this earlier: I have two Oriental rugs which are beautiful and authentic. I got them for ridiculously low prices on ebay from a seller going by the name of Pakobel rugs about five years ago. I'm sure they're still selling. Although the prices are rock bottom, the rugs I have are perfect in every way.
