Good Questions: Upholsterer Recommendations?
Chicago

upholstery111108.jpgKaty sent us a good question: Hey! I'm in a western suburbs of Chicago, and am needing a good, quick, and most importantly AFFORDABLE upholsterer. I bought these chairs thanks to the tip from AT last week, and now they need to be recovered...

Can anyone recommend someone?

Many years ago (16 years, to be specific), we had a couple of wing backed chairs reupolstered at The Fabric Mart on Lake Street in Addison--at least, that's where we got the fabric, and I think they did the work as well. I don't think they were especially cheap (although everything is relative--it seems to me that there is no such thing as a cheap reupolsterer), but boy did they do good work -- they chairs (and that fabric) have withstood years of abuse at the hands of my cats and later my kids. The store has been there for many many years, and I would recommend them. Good luck.

I've had good luck with Slipcover Plus on Ridgeland Ave. in Oak Park. They reupholstered some chairs for me a few years ago, and the chairs are still holding up. Prices are very reasonable, but it's a good idea to have your own fabric ideas before going in there. www.slipcoverplus.com

Drummond Upholstery in Evanston did a great job on a chair for me. He said 3 weeks, but he did it in less.
