Good Questions: What Chair to Go with This Desk?

Dear AT,

I just bought this desk online. It is actually a vanity, but it is smaller scale and will fit well in my bedroom. My question is what chair should I choose to go with it?

I have a low, modern bedframe/headboard that is light grey fabric, and 2 black dressers that are more traditional in style. I am trying to go for a glamorous look, but with neutral colors. I have been leaning toward the Philippe Stark Louis Ghost chair, but can't make up my mind. Can anyone offer some suggestions?

The idea of pairing the Ghost chair (above) with this desk is a good place to start. Better still, what about the acrylic George II chair with tufted seat (the seat would definitely soften up the set, which we think is a good thing) from Plexi-craft (below):

Since it will be difficult to find a chair that will look like a true match (other than that vanity stool), perhaps you'd be better off to go the route of black wood - a more obvious contrast (that will also go with your other black furniture). Or how about the slim, simple, and stunning Giorgia chair from CB2 (below):

Definitely keep the chair small, though. You don't want to overpower that glamorous mirrored desk too much!

Any other ideas out there??

Hi Lacey,
I like your idea of the Ghost Chair paired with the desk as well. The shape of that chair would be nice with the desk and tie in with your traditional dressers but still be modern and go with your bed. Instead of clear have you thought about the Ghost Chair in the opaque glossy black? I think the contrast would be nice and really show off the shape of the chair.
I can't believe the cool things people are finding at JCPenney. I need to look through their website!

If I went with the Ghost chair I was thinking the smoke color, but now that I saw the CB2 chair I am starting to like the idea of a black chair. So, the opaque blackmight be the best of both!

Yes, JCP really has some good stuff, if you fish around a little. This vanity/desk is part of a mirrored furniture collection they have. I originally saw the etagere in a Domino spread, and that's how I stumbled upon the desk. I wanted a mirrored piece so bad, and these are surprisingly affordable compared to most other mirrored furniture.
