Good Questions: Where Can I Find Amelie's Bed?

8-19-08bed1.jpg

Bridget sent us an e-mail: I am wondering if anyone has seen a bed frame similar to the one used in Amelie's bedroom in the movie. It is the closest I have seen to the kind of frame I would like. Thank you very much for any help you can give me. :)

Bridget, we did a quick search online which didn't turn up much. The closest thing we could find is the Whitney Bed from Pottery Barn (on sale for $450 - $750). It has a similar design, although it's more traditional and doesn't have the brass finish of Amelie's bed.

AT Readers, do you know where Bridget can find the bed she wants?

There's this one, from Garnet Hill. Available in different finishes:

I fell in love with those funny prints/paintings when I first saw the movie- they're right here if anyone is interested: http://www.art.com/asp/display_artist-asp/_/CRID--25256/PG--1/posters.htm?TNID=2&ui=FF48A96DB399422784C366C06418C92D

My old room and board bed is a lot like Amelie's. It's from their "Retrospect Home" range, and I bought it from the store on Michigan Avenue. I don't think they do Retrospect any more, but it would be worthwhile to check out their catalogue. Room and Board makes much better quality furniture than Pottery Barn, plus they are more reasonably priced. For what it's worth, I love my bed, especially the fact that it's a steel platform bed, so it doesn't look bulky like the Pottery Barn one, which has a boxspring and wears a silly little bedskirt. I mean, really- a skirt for your bed? And two mattresses on a frame always seemed excessive and redundant to me.

IKEA has some options for on-a-budget themes.

NORESUND has the same U-shape, although a bit more decorative. With some modification it looks quite similar at a very reasonable price.

TINGVOLL is similar-ish, but reverse U. Maybe... sort of.

This is a more more elaborate design, but it's only $80, so I thought I'd add it on the pile. Check it out only if you're looking for a steel headboard without regard to style or design. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30141895

The pottery barn model was the closest I found in style and design. But I'm not sure what your budget is.
