Good Questions: Where to Find a Modern Bedskirt?

111006parsonsbed.jpg

Dear AT,

I have a full-size metal (steel/dark grey) platform bed from Room & Board. Love the bed, but all of our boxes below the bed can be seen from a mile away. I never thought a bedskirt would look good with the bed (thought it might be a little old-fashioned looking with such a modern bed), but now I am wondering if this would be a good option.

My question is - where can I find a modern, affordable, long enough bedskirt? Are there any other interesting options that might work?

P.S. The bed is similar to Parsons, but has a few more horizontal lines of metal in the headboard area and foot area.

Thanks,
Katie

We found that All Modern Furniture offers bedskirts with clean, modern lines (all around $100). "Chicago Textile's Linenfold Collection allows you to choose the size and fabric style" - the choice you may be looking for! Any other suggestions out there?

is it possible you could put the things under your bed into nicer containers? maybe cover boxes in fabric (maybe in a shade similar to the flooring or rug beneath it?) it'd be shame to cover up a nice frame in a bed skirt.

What about attatching a *bedskirt* (or long strips of hemmed fabric of your choice) to the interior of the bottom rail with hook & loop (velcro) tape?

That way you wouldn't be disguising the beautiful lines of your bedframe and still creat visual interest.

I am with Briana, It wouldn't be hard to create panels of fabric and attach with velcro on the interior side of the rails.

Funny, I have been wanting a simular bed, but have held off because that storage space under the bed is critical in my small space. Now I might try this idea.

I love Briana's idea - best of all because it would let you hang very straight, very crisp fabric (vs. flowing folds) that honor the lines of the bed - and easy to change up the color at whim!

The only other idea (and it's admittedly a bit tougher to pull off) is to fashion a bed "skirt" out of mirrors tucked behind the bed legs. It probably sounds a little crazy, but the effect just reflects the floor or rug and makes it look like there's just air under the bed -- and of course hides a multitude of sins!

My guess is that you'll go for Option A, but I had to mention it...

helloat, what a great idea!

Wow, thanks everyone! I love the ideas. I might be enlisting the help of some crafty friends who can do things with fabric, and I will try this out!

I would consider just doing simple, streamlined, metal-colored or metal mesh boxes underneath. A few, large boxes rather than many many teeny boxes, too.

But the fabric idea is also nice, or a metal mesh used the same way.
