Kasia sent us a good question: The Violet Hour serves their cocktails in these incredible classic champagne coupe classes - not good for champagne, of course, because they let bubbles escape so quickly, but they are the perfect stemware for classic cocktails. The bowl is fairly flat on the bottom and rises straight up...

SO WEIRD!!! I have been looking for the exact (i think) same thing for a while. I was thinking about ordering these:

Are they what you were looking for? Hope this helped!

i used to work at a county club and we had these glasses. we didn't use them for champagne - but usually for parties where they wanted something like a fuzzy navel or some kind of schnapps - fountain going.
anyway, i know libby makes them: http://salestores.com/libbey26.html

I was also looking for these after drinking at VH and watching too many episodes of Mad Men. You can find them on eBay ("vintage champagne glasses" works). I also bought a few of these cocktail glasses from Crate & Barrel: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=140&f=29549. They aren't thin enough to technically be real coupe glasses, but they serve the purpose nicely and I have served champagne in them.

Waterford makes some:

...as do Orrefors...

...and Lalique and Reidel and others.
For something a bit more reasonable and interesting, have you tried searching eBay, vintage stores or fleamarkets?

I purchased these from pottery barn a few days ago...I, too have been on a quest for vintage champagne glasses.

OliviaLeigh is right that the Crate and Barrel glasses are not exactly it. I think the Libbey glasses are a little closer, but what I really like about the VH glasses is the sharper slope between the bowl and the stem. Here is the exact picture. I will probably have to keep looking on ebay... this one is perfect, if only there was more than one of them.

Legend says they were fashioned after the shape of Marie Antionette's breast...

I'd try your local thrift stores or look on eBay. I bet you could find a set of 6 or 8 really nice upscale ones on eBay without going broke.

Cost Plus! They're a bit larger than vintage ones, but great classic shape. I don't find them on the current website, but they've carried them for at least a decade.

Drinking champagne makes for grand gesticulating and tipsy toasting at my gatherings. As much as I love the coupe, I will stick to the flute. Besides, the more bubbles the better,

CB2 had something along these lines a couple of years ago.

quiltmaster - Not so. The champagne coupe glass pre-dated Marie Antoinette's birth by nearly a century, and was designed in England.
What I'm dying to find is a more conical champagne glass, like the one seen in the famous vintage Taittinger ad with Grace Kelly. Any ideas?

That kind of glass is called sometimes called a coupe. There is a store called Barkeeper in Los Angeles that will ship. They sell a mix of vintage and new. There website is barkeepersilverlake.com. I know Joe (the owner) carries a coupe from Schott Weisel, which is a German company that sells break resistant glass (no joke!) He also has vintage ones from time to time...
Apartment Therapy has written about them before, do a search.
Also Mad Men fans should know that a lot of glassware you see on the show came from Barkeeper!
DISCLAIMER: I used to work there but even if I didn't I would still love this place!

Ok so After checking out ALL of the glasses that were posted ( which i loved most of them), my favorites are the pottery barn:
http://www.potterybarn.com/products/6917363/index.cfm?clg=92&orderid=0&skus=6917363&cm%5Fsrc=E%3Ahostess%2Dgifts&action=editpip&shipto=You&showsku=6917363&lineid=1
and the Bar keeper:
http://barkeepersilverlake.com/product.asp?pID=70&cID=20
but seeing as the PB ones are way cheaper and kind of funky, i'm going to buy those!

Tobey Maloney, who runs the Violet Hour, has posted on another forum regarding these glasses:
"They are 5 1/2 oz (the 4 oz is a flatter shape, and ugly.) made by Libby, and I believe they are called coupes or champagne coupes. I don't know the product # off the top of my head, though I should. You shoould be able to order them from any restaurant supply store, or on line at the Libby website. But the site is confusing and the libby catalog is 250 some pages which is unweildy to say the least. The problem with the restaurant supply stores is that you usually have to order a case and that is 2-3 dozen."
So it looks like this is the one he's talking about.

I have a few sets, all gathered from thrift stores.
I have never liked the flutes - they seemed designed for people with bobbed noses only.
I have no trouble with escaping bubbles using my vintage glasses. Maybe I just drink too quickly!

I like the feeling of drinking from the open bowl rather than the narrow fluted champagne glasses.
my favorites are by Alessi, expensive clean and modern and so pretty!
