Good Questions: Where to Find Security Storm Doors in the City?

071307Steel_Security_Storm.jpgDear AT,

I am looking for a security storm door and would like to check out some stores that carry steel security storm doors. Home Depot has a couple, but the color I want isn't in stock so I would like to know if there are some other stores out there that carry these types of doors so I can get it more quickly. I don't have a car so it would be great to identify some stores that are in the City. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Melissa

Dear Melissa,

We found a place servicing Chicagoland - Evergreen Door & Window (in Evergreen Park at (708) 423-1720). I called today and the helpful gentleman let me know that you can order online, select a delivery time and/or a request for installation, and they will come to your place (in Chicago, so it's great for those without cars).

Check out the varieties offered among the Duraguard, Classic, HG Decorator, and Studio series here (be sure to scroll down).

Anyone else have some good suggestions for Melissa??

Melissa,
Such a shame you need this sort of protection. Good luck.

Oh. I'd love to see the other angle on this topic- what to do to make such hideous looking things seem nicer. Guess I'll have to submit that question my self. :)

We've got one (we rent) not as scrolly as the above image and I can't stand it.

Sorry don't mean to thread hijack.

I'd suggest focusing on the style and design of the door over the color. While painting isn't a snap- these metal doors can be recolored.

Hi guys-
Heather, thanks for the suggestion! I will check them out.

Kurt, not necessarily a shame so much as a reality of life. As a single woman living on my own and in need of a back porch screen door, this seems like a logical solution to let the breeze and sunlight in and provide a safer way of doing it. I don't think regular screen doors cut it in Chicago when your goals include securing yourself and your property.

Jocie-o, I agree and I'm definitely trying to focus on style and design as well as function. That's why I'm looking beyond Home Depot to see if there's some more desirable options out there. Thread hijack away, especially if it means getting some cool, affordable suggestions!

Go to http://www.familysecuritydoor.com/

They have many more styles than what's posted on the site. VERY professional reps who are very prompt.

I got one that looks like a french door.

I searched and searched -- would have loved to get a super expensive art deco style, but alas, i'm on a budget.

They're still not cheap, but worth the price. I leave my actual door open from April through September whether home or not. Feel entirely secure with the deadbolt locked.
