Slip Covers to Fit Vintage Chairs?
Good Questions

vintage100209.jpgQ: I recently purchased two flex steel chairs from the 70's. I don't have the time or talent to attempt to reupholster them at the moment. Does anyone have any idea where I could find a slip cover that would fit them appropriately? Thank you!

The chairs seemed to have a very tailored look. They would not look good slip covered. I suggest having them professionally reupholstered. It will cost you anywhere from 175-350 a chair and approximately 5 yards of fabric. This is quite reasonable as opposed to getting custom slipcovers for these guys which will start at about 150 each.

I agree w/ Comicgeek - Enjoy them as they are or get them professionally reupholstered.

Lexi, I'm with Comicgeek. I have my grandmother's old wing back lounger that I tried to get away with doing a slipcover on. It never looked good and is now in my attic waiting for me to have a little extra cash to get recovered. So the money for the cover is flushed. Meh, lesson learned.

If you know your way around a sewing machine, I highly recommend the book 'Slipcover Magic' by Dorothea Hall.

I can't imagine finding anything readymade that would fit a chair that shape.

Yes, I agree - I think that you have to upholstered the chair in order for it to look good. Plus- i don't know if you can find any on the market slipcovers - it would have to be custom made which would run about the same anyways.

I've ordered custom made slipcovers online with great success. The covers were for wedge bolster cushions (like the Case Study daybed) and they were perfectly constructed by beforeandafterslipcovers.com. Admittedly they weren't as complicated as your chair but the work was excellent. This company even does wingback chairs. The final product depends on your measurements being perfect ... Have you looked at these vendors?
