apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Good Quote: Erma Bombeck

101608-iron.jpg Do you have a chore or two that isn't exactly that the top of your "happy to do" list? The downfalls of being an adult come with doing 100% of your own housework, annoyances or no. Give us your least favorite thing to do around the home, after the jump....

Folding laundry tops out my list. I love to wash it, but am always bothered (for whatever reason!) by the act of putting it away. What tops out your list? Leave us a comment below!

Dusting! I HATE dusting--it just gathers until I can't stand it anymore.

Ironing's up there too, but that's what the "de-wrinkle" setting on the dryer is for anyway... ^_^

I hate doing dishes. I hate the fact that within the hour of freshly washed dishes, there are dirty dishes again. There's no break from it.

Erma obviously never had a Rowenta...

...but my least favorite shore is cleaning the bathroom.

I hate sweeping the floor or mopping. I'll vacuum, dust, clean the bathroom, do the dishes and laundry, but I HATE sweeping the floor!

and cleaning the fridge. No thank you.

i hate vacuuming. it makes my hands all itchy. and my mother used to do it at 8:00 or earlier on weekends when i was younger. she would start right outside my door. it was her special brand of torture.

Mopping. Hate, hate, hate it. Last night, I spilled a little out of a new bottle of Dr. Bronner's on my kitchen floor - thick peppermint soap. In the process of cleaning it up, the tiles looked different. So, I experimented on one of the unaffected tiles and, with paper towels, washed half a tile. My god! The difference! These tiles don't really show the dirt and it's only when you clean some that the apple cart is totally upset. Rest assured, I never walk barefoot in the kitchen. But, now I'm grossed out enough to do something about it. Since I'm doing the Fall Cure, I'm washing it for sure. But, I also want to commit to washing it regularly. As someone said in one of these threads about why they clean (or something like that), I deserve it. I've failed before, but it sure is nice to not be grossed out by the floor.

i hate doing laundry because of the multiple trips to the laundrymat & i can never multi-task - it eats up hours of my day!

I'm not a fan of doing laundry. I love it after the fact, but the actual process of getting it done is not my idea of a good time. I think if I had a washer/dryer IN my apartment it might be easier, but having to go down the street to the laundromat turns it in to this BIG to do.

I have 5 loads worth of laundry waiting to be ironed. That's all I have to say.
At least, when we had TV I could watch a movie or something but now...

I'm a man(gay obviously) and find cleaning very cathartic. I absolutely LOVE vacuuming...carpet fresh anyone? I also LOVE doing laundry....I actually enjoy watching my clothes wash from the lil' window in my front loader! If I had to pick a least favorite...it would probably be dusting my vast milk glass collection.

I don't clean tread surfaces. No vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, raking, shoveling or mowing. Hate it, hate it, hate it. My husband handles all tread surfaces.

i really, really don't like cleaning the toilet. the inner rim is not so bad but it's the base and all of those little crevices. no matter how often i clean it, it always seems so gross! yuck.

I hate cleaning the toilet and the bathtub, so those jobs are reserved for my husband. I don't mind the rest of the chores so much, although my (rental) kitchen floor is kind of a pain.

Ironing.. ugh.. and until last weekend i had one of those horrible short ironing boards that sits on the floor/counter. It was hell! I will put clothes in the "ironing bag" and forget about them for months!

poisonhypnotique, why would it be obvious that you're gay if you like cleaning? My boyfriend has always been much tidier than me and he enjoys cleaning up a whole lot more than I do!

bubble and poison - die!! die! die!!!! (I'm kidding. It's just jealousy talking.)

Hmm... what chore do I *not* hate? Well, I most hate dishes because they keep coming back. Then, vacuuming, because it's heavy and noisy. I don't iron very much because I hate that, too. I just got a portable steamer and have not been wild about it... it's wimpy. (Conair brand.) Not sure if this is a safety thing or what but I'm going to try to exchange it.

Dusting. Dusting is a neverending cylce. I especially detest dusting my window ledges. I do it because otherwise the thought of dirty ledges taps away at my brain annoyingly... but that doesn't mean I enjoy it. Nope.

I don't love doing any chores, but I'd much rather clean my bathroom than just about anything else. My absolute least favorite chore is laundry because I have to schlep it down four flights of stairs and fight with my neighbors for the few washers and dryers. No thanks. Second would be grocery shopping for similar reasons.

I hate cleaning the screens and windows. we live pretty close to the beach and both get destroyed by salt spray. unless we do it once a month, it gets so bad you can barely see through them. HATE IT! (BTW oven cleaner is the best thing to clean metal screens and windows with).

I hate taking out the trash. It's the one thing I always make my husband do.

For those dusting haters, I have to tell you as a former member of your ranks, it's all about the tools. I recently bought a cheap but fantastic microfiber dusting mit, and now I LOVE TO DUST! It has a thumb and forefinger, but the rest is a sort of mitten, and it picks up everything, so no dust flies around. I can't remember the brand name, but it must be common because I bought it at the grovery store for like $2. Changed my life! Or at least my mother's perception of my life.

I don't mind scooping the cat box daily, but I detest cleaning the box and the rest of the bathroom.
Kitty and I both need to work on our aim.

Exactly right, Oven Mitzie! Tread surfaces are the grossest. One of these days I'm going to buy an Electrolux ErgoRapido. Then I think I'll actually vacuum (still hate washing the floors though).

Grocery shopping...I will put it off and put it off until I am practically starving. There just isn't a good time to go. You go during the day and you have to deal with the stay-at-home-moms who enjoy blocking entire aisles and their screaming kids who you can hear from the other end of the store. If you go at night, you are shopping with the delinquents who have nothing better to do than gather around the front door and the bored teenagers who enjoy racing each other down the aisles. The weekends, it's just plain packed and you play grocery cart bumper cars. HATE grocery shopping. Then laundry would be next, only because I think the concept of having to PAY to do laundry stinks.

Scrubbing the tile floor. I hate it! I have bad knees, so it starts to hurt after a while, and mopping only does so much.

Laundry Sucks! Especially here in NYC where it's rare to have a washer/dryer in your apartment. I only have to lug my loads down to the laundry room on the first floor, but a lot of people have to drag their dirty duds to a luandry mat blocks away from their home. Either way, it all sucks. The sign of truly "making it" here (to me, anyway) is having a washer/dryer in your home.

Washing dishes. I don't have a dishwasher. Such a waste of time.

Laundry. Especially putting it away after it's done. For some reason I hate that part.

Cleaning cat hair off of things.

Cleaning the inside of the microwave.

Shampooing carpets. Luckily it doesn't have to be done frequently. The actual process of shampooing can be fun; it's moving everything around and then waiting for the carpets to dry that's a big pain in the butt.

you know, it's funny. i enjoy laundry. i find it relaxing, but i always put it off.

cleaning the litter box tops the list. not b/c of the litter, but b/c it means i have to walk 3 flights to the garbage.

dishes. I will clean and straighten the whole kitchen, neatly stack everything in the sink, put away ingredients and leftovers, but hate actually washing. "I cooked, you clean!" That's my motto.

my new joy is swiffer-vac-ing. It's my challenge to do the whole house before the charge runs out. (darn thing holds a charge for like 10 minutes - anyone else find that irritating?) then getting to walk around barefoot without stepping on crumbs, yay!

Dishes. They never end. Dishes are followed closely by broom sweeping. I have to do it twice daily b/c of 4 hairy pets crammed into a tiny space. I think I sweep up another small animal worth of fur each time. Yuck.
