Recycling stations are a fixture in most homes nowadays, but making them attractive can be a challenge. You can hide your bins, stack them in a tucked-away corner, or opt for good-looking storage that you don't mind keeping out in the open. Whatever your style, we've rounded up five ideas, from sleek and compact bins to stowaway storage...

Ooh I like the second one (from Martha Stewart)...I can't wait till I have enough space to do this sort of thing in a garage.

We installed a plastic pullout trash can under our sink for recycling.
It looks exactly like this: http://www.organizeit.com/poslidebin.asp
We have one for garbage as well, but it's in a separate cabinet.
I find standalone garbage and recycling containers cluttersome.

I love the last one! It may not be the nicest looking, but I think it looks the most functional, at least for a house like mine.
We generate a lot of recycling, so we need something that will hold a good bit. Right now we have rubbermaid bins on top of our dog crates! Talk about ugly on top of ugly. But we have a small house, big dogs, and large recycling bins. We plan to handle this problem with something like that last photo when we remodel our kitchen.

I like the fourth option! I also really liked what Sara Snow made with Jon & Kate Plus 8. They were different colored bins with chalkboard paint so the kids could write in chalk what goes in each bin.

I was just thinking of some options for this problem. My Recycle bins now are just the plastic crates thrown on the garage floor. I did go to www.thecontainerstore.com they have some nice options but the bins are bit small. Like heater, we have a lot of recycles around our house. Maybe a good Spring Clean in the garage would clear some space for the last option and add an extra work space on top to boot! Thanks for the nice ideas!

I'm so glad our city doesn't require us to sort recyclables! We get as many 65 gallon bins on wheels as we want for no extra charge and can throw any recyclable in there.

After a year of trying to figure out a compact recycling bin solution without having to buy something (there was something counterproductive about that proposition)...I finally caved.
I got an all-white version of the IKEA TROFAST:

It works beautifully for my one-bedroom lifestyle and was much cheaper than other options.

A lot of these just seem way too small...the Martha Stewart bins look like they'd hold exactly one of the milk cartons pictured on them. A lot of recycling bins seem to have a full size slot for trash, and a half-size slot for recycling -- but in my experience, the balance tends to be just the opposite.
If it weren't so expensive and bulky, I'd seriously think about buying a trash compactor for my recyclable containers.

JenPDX I like the ikea one. I like that it's white plastic bins so you can make sure it's clean. I like the style of the middle option above, but I know I'd get leaking stuff all over that mess. This one is better.

I search endlessly for a recycling solution and found it in the form of three SKRIN boxes/lids from IKEA.
Seriously... a great solution!

Modtramp...
I like this the look of these bins a lot. But, I do have one question...do they rust if you spill liquid?
