Have you ever fantasized about living in a converted warehouse or fire station? (Here in the Midwest, we're fascinated with barn conversions.) For all your conversion fantasies, check out the portfolio of British architect Simon Conder. The man is a mix-master, creating residential space from farm buildings, granaries, and even industrial rooftops...

Conversion and renovation are two of the greenest approaches to architecture, since they minimize waste, preserve existing construction, and help to revitalize former industrial areas. In addition to conversion projects, Conder also works with new construction and other green technologies including solar heating, wind power, recycled materials, and water harvesting. Beautiful! That retractable skylight is amazing. But I'd be so self conscious about using that glass enclosed bathroom next to the kitchen in pic 5.

What a great portfolio! It's a shame it can be so expensive to even get approval to convert a warehouse or the likes into a residence, otherwise many more people would be willing and able to do so!
