The Eco-Brolly frame instantly converts a discarded newspaper, plastic bag, magazine, etc., into a stop-gap umbrella.
It's a highly portable solution for those of us who are often only running building to transport - or just need to make it to the nearest shelter/coffee shop/happy hour with appearance intact.

It's a fun idea, but how is this green? Can wet paper be recycled? My regular purse-size umbrella serves me just fine.

Well if the newspaper is soaked to the point of disintegrating, it's probably not recyclable, but damp newsprint can be dried easily. I've spilled coffee and juice on large sections of newspaper before and simply draped it over the kitchen sink to dry out before putting it in a recycling bin.

Why would wet paper be non-recyclable?
Surely the first stage of recycling paper is to pulp it by *adding* water, so if it was wet already it wouldn't matter. Or am I missing something / has the recycling method changed?

Lukens: all I know is that here in Montreal, everything we put in the recycling bin has to be clean and dry.

This is a clever idea at first glance but then any reasonably intelligent person has to agree with eebnyc - totally useless.

Gotta agree. Cute but pretty impractical...

That's a waste of money and how is this eco friendly? The umbrella that I purchased 7 years ago I still have till this day. That looks like it wouldn't last one.

The Metro (in the pic) is a free London newspaper - and so readily available (thrust into your hand every few paces) that you don't need an extra device to use these as an umbrella when "running building to transport". They serve perfectly well as is - as eebncy has said before me.

I guess the point is why would you be carrying this frame around instead of a compact umbrella?
