We've blogged Mrs. Meyers products more than once, but the mention of the Mrs. never goes undeserved.
Our friend recently moved, and the old question of what to get for a housewarming gift came up. We decided that only she knew exactly what kind of stuff belonged in her new apartment. Her style is unique, taste impeccable, and after moving, she really didn't want to be acquiring a whole lot more.
But one of the most difficult aspects of moving into a new place is cleaning it up, especially if the folks before you did a bad job, had pets, or there was a lot of lag time (ie. enough time for dust bunnies to grow) in between residents. Even if it seemed clean enough upon arrival, there really is a good feeling that comes with scrubbing down your new place so that it feels ready for you to live in it.
Our gift idea: an assortment of Mrs. Meyers cleaning supplies (we chose lavender). Not only are the products all natural, but they smell great and look great, too. And at above-average prices for cleaning supplies in general, it's a thoughtful gift for someone that can't always go the greener (which sometimes means pricier) route.

Even better: buy her a session from a cleaning service, so she can relax!

Anne that is the most genius idea ever! Lordy! I would become best friends with the friend who gave me that.

or you could offer to help clean the apartment using the products! I know I'd love that as a gift.

I love this gift suggestion. My age group of friends (as young as 46 and old as me, 57) do not want more "stuff." We're into owning only what we love, taking good care of it, living and spending more lightly. So, I try to give practical, consumable gifts now, especially if they rise above the everyday level. Mrs. Meyers wares look like they'd be a pleasure to use, and not something you'd commonly buy for yourself.

I highly recommend a green-kit (www.green-kits.com) which have different gift sets of "green" cleaning products. Just choose the one you want, choose gift packaging, and go! It was a big hit at a recent housewarming.

At first I wondered if a gift of cleaning supplies might suggest that person needed to improve on their cleaning abilities, but I'm sold on both the practical and "green" aspects of this kind of housewarming gift---much better than a plant or a knick-knack they might not like. I also recently gave a gift box from www.redlanternstyle.com that was a big hit. They got to use the silk covered box after they finished the gourmet sauces.
