Gwyneth's Green Picks

Gwyneth's GOOP that arrived in our inbox today is all about products geared toward living a greener life - we always find it interesting to see what eco-entrepreneurs are working on. As Gwyneth says: We are living in exciting times. We are confronted with the challenge of sustaining our food, our water and our environment. We are changing things. It’s big. Here are five of her picks, some familiar, others coming soon:

The Baggu bags look very similar to Envirosax, which I really like.

I tend to walk everywhere, so I hate big, bulky canvas grocery bags. The lightweight polyester bags roll and snap to throw in your other bags.

Maybe someone somewhere has already answered this, but why is it called GOOP?

I prefer the Flip and Tumble bags because they fold up into neat little balls (it's kind of fun to do it) and you don't need a separate pouch for them. They're very easy to keep in your purse or, if you have a car, glove compartment.

I really like my Solio.

It works great flying to/from Europe and keeping my iPod charged (Had to book a seat on the sunny side of the airliner)

I would read GOOP if I wanted to hear Gwyneth's opinions on anything. I don't. Please don't sully AT with GOOP!

I would no sooner take Gwyneth's advice on going green than I would ask a blind man to colour coordinate my clothes.

She apparently wanted a name that was vague enough to encompass anything she might come up with to talk about on the site, and goop just came to mind.

I agree with others here that she's more than a bit pretentious and overbearing, but that doesn't preclude her ever being right about something.

I wonder if she pays some underling to come up with this stuff or if she actually does it herself. I wonder if she's working on reducing the carbon footprint of her husband's band.

Why is she so annoying? Because she is beautiful, talented, and rich? Or is it because she's smart, poised, and articulate? Come on, people.

Annoyance, thy name is Jealousie.

FYI, I meant "jealousy" but spelled it to look like a name just to be cheeky.

The Baggu bags come in gorgeous colors, but beware! The handles make them really hard to tuck under your arm. I walk to and from my grocery store with small loads and handles oriented a different way on the Baggu would be nice.

And they get holes in them pretty easy, ruining a pretty expensive bag.

With so many wonderful blogs, great photogs and witty writers out there, I do wonder why on earth anyone would go to GOOP for ideas.

WendyJ, because GP comes across as insufferably smug at times. And sometimes downright snooty. I'm sure it's not her intention to sound pretentious when she refers to Billy Joel as 'William', but that's how it sounds.
