Local Eats: U-Pick Apples

Apples fresh from the tree. So much tastier than store bought - we don't know whether it's mind over matter, but we have really enjoyed the apples we picked in Michigan a few weekends ago.
We hadn't been apple picking before...

and we liked the whole (old fashioned, but fun) experience:

all the different varieties,

the sunny afternoon,

and especially snacking while picking,

at Tree-Mendus Fruit U-Pick in Eau Claire. If you're ready for some excellent apples, a two hour ride and maybe even a cherry boat treat (a cherry pie/belgian waffle-y combo), you know where to go.

That looks lovely - however, if you want a bit shorter drive (particularly from the south side) you might also want to try LaPorte County, IN. My family has always gone to Garwood Orchards (http://www.garwoodorchard.com/) which has always been a treat. Also, they have pick your own raspberries in season as well. And maple donuts. And apple donuts. (The store is a little over-countrified, in my opinion, but that's a small issue).

Yay! I'm so excited about going to pick apples this weekend. I'm planning on visiting an organic apple farm up past Sauagtauk. Looking forward to making homemade apple sauce, pies, etc. Also - can't wait for the delicious cider!

APT- you've mentioned in the past your adventures on Red Arrow Highway, and wonder if you can point me to a map or general geographic area you like...
