Ever since we spotted this pot and pan rack by Metropolitan Produce, we've been thinking about its simplicity and beauty. Made from a reclaimed beam, the design is fairly straightforward, but the price tag of $3,500 isn't within our reach. We did a little searching and found a few similar designs for less...
These Floating Lumber Shelves from Etsy seller Cinderdesign are less expensive, but still pricey, at $70 per foot.
They lack the clever magnetic knife rack and lid storage of the Metropolitan Produce design, but they're also made from reclaimed lumber. Nails from the original beams are used as mug hooks.
A smaller, cheaper version is this barn wood key rack from Rustics Reborn for $28. The shop also carries a reclaimed coat shelf/rack for $45.
To spend as little money as possible, we'd recommend taking this on as a DIY project. Find out the support you'll need to secure a beam to your wall, screw it into wall studs and use reinforced supports if necessary, screw some hooks into the beam for hanging mugs along the bottom, and you're set. I love the clean style of the pot and pan rack by Metropolitan Produce. But at this price, I would probably hire a talented carpenter or a wood cabinet maker to create a custom made version.
