Waterhog Doormat Collection from L.L. Bean

020409pupmat.jpgL.L. Bean asks, "Is it wrong to love a doormat?" Don't think so. If you're reading Apartment Therapy, chances are that you're the type of person that loves something in your home that others find neutral, unimportant, or totally unlovable. An antique, sure. A favorite blanket, of course. But a doormat? Certain cleaning supplies? A storage container? Might sound boring to some folks, but we absolutely understand.

L.L. Bean has been impressing us this winter, and although we haven't seen this doormat collection in person, we like the simplicity, reviews, greenness (made from 100% recycled plastic bottles) and claim of durability that we see online.

A few examples:

020409coir.jpg

Coir-style Waterhog doormat, $49.95 (plain) or $59.95 (personalized)

020409crescent.jpgCrescent mat, $49.95 (medium) or $129 (large)

020409perfectsize.jpgPerfect-size 6' wide mat, $165-$705

Personalized pet placemat
, $32.95

Anyone have a firsthand love (or less than love) account of pieces from this collection ??

We're actually in the market for doormats for our front and back doors. (Yuck, winter.) I like (not love) the first monogrammed one, but it seems pricey for something that is going to sit on the floor and hold dirty, wet boots.

Anyone see any great budget-friendly options recently?

Ikea -- $25 for a large indoor/outdoor rug that can be hosed off. Is working well at our front door (in suburban Chicago -- lots of slush from many pairs of snow boots).
