yeah, see, everyone who said they knew the room pretty much gave away that the room was NOW, which is how i voted after seeing those remarks. guys, please be more discreet if you know the rooms! :-0

I highly recommend it - you'll never look at Pink and Green the same way again!

Look at the size of that lamp! I thought it looked large in the original photo--but that play on scale is totally now!

I realized I'd gotten it wrong when I read the Jonathan Adler lighting post earlier today. A few clicks later and I saw the chadelier in his collection.

In defense of all of us who said '70s, this room never should have happened after 1977.

Totally agreed with mdo: it was bad enough in the 70s; indefensible in today's design world!

A totally depressing room. It reminds me of musty shag carpet.

This confirms my distaste for Jonathan Adler stuff.

Jonathan Adler doesn't have an original bone in his body -- this just proves it!

Where are the smoked mirrors and the hanging oil droplet lamp?

Just to let everyone know, I have collected many vintage design books, and read a lot of design blogs that feature vintage and retro interiors, So just because someone says they know the room, doesn't mean its contemporary.

Oh and by the way, It is a fabulous room! IMHO

I'll add my criticism of this room: the painting is somehow wrong for the space, in terms of scale/ proportion (too square to be over such a short sofa on such a long wall) and color -- the colors seem to work against the rest of the room.

I said now because all the kids in thier 30's are going back to the colours they grew up with. Frankly the 70's was a horrible decade for fashion and design and I will never ever use any of those colours or any of the designs inspired from that decade.

Pink and green, the thought makes me ill.

Yup, I'm with bonjourmiette. I thought it looked like now, but so ugly that it was easier (and more comforting) to believe it was the 90s!

I voted for now because:

-there were no such sofas in the '70s -- it is clearly a current sofa;

-those elements -- especially the chinoiserie chairs -- would NEVER have been combined together in the '70s -- it is clearly a reinterpretation of someone's ideas of the '70s. No one ever had such ridiculous animal head sculptures back then.

-Really, there was some GREAT design in the '70s, but this is a tongue-in-cheek kitschy reinterpretation of that era which people (those too young to have lived through it) unfortunately take seriously -- sad to see, because it influences the understanding that young people have of that decade. (if it is not tongue-in-cheek, then it is just really BAD).

There *was* a lot of good design in the '70s, and this room just confuses matters.

This room is just pure unadulterated kitsch.

I think monika1 is right, there was good design in the 70's. It's just that this reminds too many of us of the bad design that was affordable and therefore in everyone's basement. There should be a big ashtray on the table to complete the look.

All I know is that if a stone wall weren't going up in my kitchen even as I write, the one in this picture would make me die of envy. It's all I could see!

Thank god my parents had (well, have) good taste and I grew up with white walls, hardwood floors and oriental/navajo rugs in the 70s.....

This is like the his work at The Parker Palm Springs, good intentions, but really hideous and dirty. All of the furnishings are ratty and unkept. I can't imagine paying someone to do this on purpose.

I think it's funny reading the folks posts who hate this room...

...but the guy who designed it is the one who's being paid for his design taste.

This room reminds me of the smell of mildew...

I myself love many designs from the 70's and have added a few of the 70's influences into my own living room.

However...I'm not a fan of THIS room. The colors, the animal head on the left wall, the dining set, the couch...most everything needs to go. My least favorite thing (besides the color of the couch) is the rug...DEFINITELY needs to go!
