For all you Lost junkies out there...

I have these hemispheres in my bedroom; they look better in person than on the web. I love them, and get compliments on them all the time.

I have been obsessed w/ maps for as long as I can remember. Currently, my dining room is full of maps I found in old atlases (no, atli? Long time since HS Latin class), and an old plan I found from Frederick Law Olmsted Sr. in a place I cannot disclose w/o getting into some trouble, but I can say I saved it from being wrinkled up in a ball in the corner of a file drawer in a planning office.

My favorite is my 1999 NYC subway map that hangs in my bathroom - I even planned the colors in there around it. There are many great free or super cheap maps out there that you can decorate with for nothing or next to nothing! Blow up a Nolli (sp? it's been a long time since grad school) map of Rome and wah-lah - you are suddenly a designer on the same fame plane as Nate Berkus!

OOOOOH! I don't tend towards themes, but if I did, the map theme would be a top contender. Something about a map lends an air of adventure and exploration to ...well, almost anything! There's also something very grounding about consulting maps of the physical world -- good stuff to have around.
