So we're moving soon, and a friend just gave us a great tip: sign up online for 10% off an entire purchase (under $5000) from Lowe's Moving. Anyone else know of local deals for Chicagoans on the cusp of a costly move?

Thanks, Roni!
If you fill out an online change of address form, you also receive several coupons from stores like Home Depot and others.

I was just about to say that, SFGail. You can change your address online and print the coupons you want, too. There is a charge as a means of verifiying your address, but it's a dollar, and to not have to deal with going to the post office and whatnot, I find it worth it.

The post office has "moving coupons" you can pick up...even if you are not moving.

Regarding the coupons SFGail mentions, we received 10% from Lowe's, Home Depot and three to Pottery Barn (to regular PB, PBkids and PBteens). I believe there were a few others (Cable TV and such), but we didn't have as much use for them. Also, just a tip we learned when we recently moved: U-Haul locations have a free "take a box, leave a box" program. You can pick up free boxes for your own move and then return them later for others to use - inexpensive and it recycles!
