2006-07-10-oldelogo.jpg New to Chicago is a branch of the NY-based salvage company, Olde Good Things.

2006-07-10-mantle.jpgWe have not visited the shop yet, but are intrigued by what is available. Antique wood flooring, iron work, mantels and lighting. Vintage sinks, tubs and bath hardware. Tile, stone and terra cotta. We especially like the idea of using the beautiful old doors and knobs.

If you are rehabbing an old home or are attempting to inject some "patina" into new construction this sounds like a worthwhile resource. An online shop gives an idea of what is available and price points.

2006-07-10-ovenr.jpg The kitchen section is fun to check out, the old stoves and sinks really do seem ancient through our "stainless steel everywhere" eyes.

The mantle shown above was salvaged in Manhattan, is made of solid elm, was recently stripped and is in great shape. $4500.

The Antique "Prosperity" oven, above, is in excellent condition. $950.

We wandered by here one night several months ago while they were moving in. Even though Grand is dark and deserted at that time, the gentleman wasn't worried about two strangers lurking about. And even though there were crates and mayhem everywhere, he welcomed us in for a look. He had a backstory for every piece, despite the disarray.

These artifacts are mostly out of our price range (I don't know how they compare to similar stores), but the store AND it's owner have personality.
