Warm Details in Modern Homes

It's a cold, wet day here, which has us warming up to these winter-friendly details from modern homes...

So often, modern design is labeled as hard and cold. Not so, though, in these cases. It's amazing what an effect even visual details have on warming up a room. We've been fighting the chill ourselves, even though our office is concrete-floored with lots of hard surfaces. One visual weapon in our arsenal? A glowing little lamp (like this) used in lieu of the cool overhead lighting. Here's more on the details pictured up top:

• 1 A modern icon is warmed up with a heavy blanket, from the home of Charles and Ray Eames. Via Homebug

why is that third picture so perfect, its' not trying hard and the wasabi green, red knobs and yellow kettle all are working in harmony.

i think the concept of modern being the equivalent of hard and cold is such a myth - but one many so frequently and easily perpetuate.

I have a remnant of a flokati rug that I've been meaning to make into a throw pillow for my Eames-wannabe Plycraft lounge chair. Thanks for reminding me to get on it!

Fuzzy, wooly textures go a long way towards warming up any room.

@twelveindustries - agreed about the myth of coldness. I am frequently annoyed by these statements, especially since my home is both very modern and nicely warm...

Modern being cold, I can see where that came to be as some modern interiors ARE such and it's more in how one makes them that determins whether cold or warm. Too many of the images I see of the Bauhaus leaves me cold for it's too spare, but take that same room and add warm colorful textures and it'd warm right up.
