Adding to Boston's historic appeal, this bed and breakfast in Beacon Hill, The Charles Street Inn, was a fantastic spot to rest during a recent single day/night in Boston (our first visit).
In a rennovated 1860 Victorian townhouse, each of nine rooms includes original ceiling ornamentaion, a marble fireplace, and a theme centered around a Boston Victorian who contributed to the Arts. (Note: "theme" does not equal "cheesy" here.)

I'm a huge fan of the Kimpton hotels - the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge is fun, has a free wine tasting every day from 5-6, and is in a terrific location near public transportation. And the eclectic, colorful rooms are fabulous!

I am sorry you only had one night in Boston. What a pretty hotel room you had, though, and the location couldn't be better.
I hope you had time to stroll on Beacon Hill and through the Public Garden, two of the loveliest parts of town.
