Our Thanksgivings always involve these two basic activities: sharing a large meal and going for a long walk. This year, we're celebrating on this second Monday in October, Thanksgiving Day in our home away from home, Montreal, and throughout all of Canada...
The Canadian Thanksgiving is held the second Monday in October, unlike the American Thanksgiving, which falls in November. Some people believe this is because Canada, being farther north, has an earlier harvest. Others think that having Thanksgiving in November interfered with Remembrance Day, a day set apart each year on November 11th to remember those who died in wars. At any rate, deciding to have Thanksgiving in October when the weather is still warm enough for Canadians to enjoy the outdoors was a great idea! Excerpt from Proud Canadian Kids.

Our traditional walk after feasting will, this year, take us past a brightly-painted front door (up top), a farmhouse in the city:
and a view to be thankful for:
And what would the day be without a gratuitous food shot?:
If you're in Canada, how are you celebrating today? If you're in the States, how are you preparing your home for your celebration next month? Let us know here.
We have clam chowder (or another good, homemade soup), everybody's favourite appetizers, visit the Ball's Falls art / craft show, and generally hang out and relax.

We went to the botanical garden (in Montreal) with some friends to see the chinese lanterns (it's really beautiful, if you haven't been there, you should go!) and we had a nice dinner with friends.

I believe the "farmhouse" is the Hurtubise house in Westmount. If I recall correctly, it's one of the oldest extant houses within the central city. And still privately owned too!
