The Most Famous Hotel Room in the World?

We recently heard about what may be one of the most famous hotel rooms in the world - at least to lovers of modernism. Located in the "first designer hotel" it is...

...Room 606 at the Radisson Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Room 606 is an example of Arne Jacobsen’s original interior design for the hotel rooms from 1960. It still functions as a regular guest room, available for booking.

Info from the Radisson site: Room 606 is the only hotel room with the original Arne Jacobsen décor from July 1960 when the hotel first opened its doors. With the grey, blue-green colours, the wengé wood and a selection of the most representative furniture designed for the hotel, this room takes its visitors to another time and place. Room 606 functions as a regular guestroom and is a must for Arne Jacobsen fans and design lovers. 606 offers state-of-the-art Bang & Olufsen TV and Royal Club amenities.

Hotel guests with an interest in design are welcome to visit Room 606, when it is available. Arne Jacobsen designed the famous Egg and Swan chairs for the Royal as well as the lesser known and rare Drop chair. The room features other details like built-in makeup mirrors, radio and intercom system.

Lots more info on the history of the hotel and its design can be found right here.

Nice! I've never thought of those two colors together. The green makes the baby blue grown up and the shapes of the furniture are a nice juxtaposition to that soft blue. If it were a poufy, mis-shapen couch it just would not work. Cheers!

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Copenhagen. I looked like a bit of a weirdo checking out all the door knobs and walking around like a kid at Disneyland, but it really tops off the CH experience.

We tried to stay there when we were in Copenhagen last summer, but it was over $500 for a standard double... way too rich for us!

That said, you will find Arne Jacobsen doorknobs and soap dispensers and chairs everywhere... We were pretty surprised to come across them when we went to the toilets in the Tivoli gardens!! (pretty impressive! Sure beats North American public toilets in amusement parks!)

You can also read about two Canadian bloggers' stay in room 606 here (includes quite a few photos):

(in fact, I love the whole blogged account of their recent trip to Scandinavia...)

Ehh, not a fan.

What I love (read: hate) about "modern" design is that eventually it just looks dated ... rarely in a good way.

I just wouldn't be comfortable in a room feeling like Greg, Jan, Marsha and Peter would come running around. "Mom always said not to play ball in the house."

I heart those desk chairs - have never seen that shape before. I wonder if they're still made today!
