UN-FOLD: on You Tube

A short blast from the recent past: UN_FOLD Ninety Days was a global design challenge and exhibition involving nine international designers.

2006-04-14-unfold.jpgCity Magazine sent designers from around the globe this project brief: create a cost-effective, collapsible piece of furniture and ship it to New York inside a large FedEx box within 90 days of receipt. The rules: the budget could not exceed $200, the design must support the weight of a person up to 200 lbs, and instructions must accompany the design in order to assemble it for exhibition.

A short video was made of the unpacking, assembling and "testing" of the furniture. It's cute and now it's viewable on You Tube.

Really cool little video.

However, if I'd been one of the designers, I would have simply packed up some legs and had the actual FedEx box be the top of the stool. Maybe throw in a fabric casing to pretty things up a little.

Do we know which stool won?

I like the expanding insulting foam. Very ingenious and original idea. Never seen foam used for a structural item.
