20080804hobo1.jpgWe've been to HOBO two times but each time has been an adventure. If you're a contractor, house-flipper, or DIY junkie, you already know about this home renovation treasure chest. Now it's time to let everyone in on the secret...

20080804hobo3.jpgWe first checked out HOBO's West Humboldt Park location for their selection of inexpensive tile. They do have a lot of "contractor tile" (cheap stuff that doesn't make much of a statement) but there are some gems, if you're willing to look. The price will make it worth it.

20080804hobo6.jpgHOBO is also worth visiting if you're thinking of renovating a bathroom. We saw lots of pedestal sinks for sale (most under $100). They have toilets, marble countertops, plumbing supplies, and paint to finish off the job.

20080804hobo5.jpgThere are rugs...There are doors. HOBO is much like a mini-Home Depot except they offer their customers "factory-direct deals and closeouts from all over the world."

20080804hobo9.jpgSince they do specialize in close-out stock, their merchandise is not always consistent so make sure you know how much you need of each item before you buy. Along the same lines, make sure to ask about their return policy for each item. Most purchases can be returned within 30 days but certain items are considered a final sale.

I love Hobo, but I would warn people to look very closely at what you are buying. I know it's hard to believe, but some of it is crap.

Just sayin.

oh yes i live near hobo and love it... it can be a hit or miss... but i have found some great stuff. nice wood flooring, glass subway tile, and lots of pretty rugs! if you don't live too far and are renovating i'd definitely recomend a stop in just to see if they have anything that suits you on the cheap.

We had a HOBO in Milwaukee... and it truly WAS our best friend. We found everything from stick on carpet squares to closet organization.... I miss it dearly.

We have a VERY SMALL salvage store relatively near us, and it's hit-or-miss as well. But I do love it. Wish we had a HOBO!
