The lead story from this week's edition has no link (too bad), but its a good one for those with room for an edible garden. It outlines a list of what seeds to plant now so you can eat them this fall. Here's the main points:
To plant in the next two weeks:
green beans, snow and snap peas, beets, chard, kale, turnips, carrots and collards.
To plant through mid-August:
leaf lettuce, mesclun, spinach, mizuna, spring radishes, and bok choy.
To plant now to enjoy NEXT summer: simply plant loose garlic cloves and small shallot bulbs. (Did you know you could do this? We didn't!)
Also from H&G this week:
Home Design in the Blogosphere: Terri Spinoza of the Washington Post puts together a list of blogs where "design junkies can get their daily decor fix": Apartment Therapy (yay!), Design*Sponge, Decor 8, Pigtown Design, Design Hole, Bloesem, and SF Girl by Bay. Congrats to all!
Dishing: Recipes for fresh peaches (better enjoy them while you can): French Toast Peach Cobbler and Bixie's Peach Float
To-Do List: Attend the Harrington College of Design progressive dinner to benefit "Design at Home". Cocktails and hors d'oeurves at Manifesto, a vegetarian dinner at the Bulthaup showroom, and dessert in the rooftop garden at Lightology.
5 Things: Another article without a link this week, but also worth mentioning- five things to do with old newspaper (in addition to recycling, naturally). They are - line refrigerator crisper drawers and the garbage can/bag, clean windows and mirrors, stuff shoes, mulch plants, and add it to compost or to the bedding for a worm bin.

You can always plant stray garlic cloves to make wonderful garlic greens to add to your kitchen delectables.
