Honestly, I completely get British humour and I utterly fail to see the point in this.

...whoever thought of this thing has obviously never had a cat...

They HAVE had cats, that's the point. It's just a silly "Oh wouldn't it be nice if this worked ha ha," like when parents pretend to remote turn their kids off (or vice versa). I think you guys are reading too far into it. Yeesh.

I personally thing these kinds of gifts are fairly pointless for not much amusement (not to mention cluttery), but there's really nothing to "get" about it. Simple, old humour. Not everything is complex.

Hehehe...it's really cute, but I don't know about buying one. The problem is that it doesn't actually DO anything, so there's no real reason to have one. I've got enough clutter without one of those.

Definitely cute, but I'd never buy it for myself or anyone I know.

This is the silliest thing ever and mvdiaz9 is right, whoever owns a cat would know better. But I could see my mom loving this, but she wouldn't be crazy enough to buy it for herself.

Spencer's Gifts type item. A funny joke on the store shelf but nothing you'd actually buy. Nothing any smart person would actually buy.

wow is the sense of humor just lacking because its wednesday? come on people. while i agree that its useless, i also think its cute and most cat people would get a little laugh out of it.

No wonder we are in a recession... Why do we consume crap like this?

I think it's hilarious. But I can see how it would bring out the anti-consumerism grouchies (it IS useless). The humor would probably go over better if this were just a gimmick for a print ad or a commercial, and not something anyone could actually buy anywhere.

if it could squirt water when you push stop scratching/get off bed, or release pheremones when you push show affection/stop attacking, then this thing might be a bit useful!

OR, if it was a laser pointer! that would make it useful, too!

i still might get it for my mom, though.

There should be a third option after "hot" or "not" - "n/a"

For Women

A hilaaaarious joke for people who like jokes.
Still, to BUY - a total pass.

I just used a tv remote on my ex whenever he blathered on about something pointless and shallow. I pointed it at him, clicked and he just stopped talking and looked at me with complete indignation. SO, in effect, it worked.

But in the case of a cat.... the cat owns YOU.

As a pic to show others online, it's adorable. As a piece of plastic... not so much.

If it doesn't have a "Go away" button, it's useless to me.

My cat is annoying. Especially when I'm typing.

Snort.

I think it's a good gag gift for cat lovers, but not something ever to buy oneself.

The ad is a great sight gag, no product ever need actually exist. ("hope for the best" is all TOO true!)

I had the unfortunate luck to work in a store which decided to start selling "trendy", toy/knickknacks as an "added value dimension" to their totally not related main body of inventory, and horror upon horror of the total impulse sales these useless pieces of junk generated. Yes, people buy this stuff! puppies and kittens, puppies and kittens.
