Ernie and Drew sent us these photos of their two bedroom loft for two reasons: they love reading AT and their friends kept insisting that their place would be a perfect fit. To this, of course we must first say thanks for the AT love, Drew and Ernie. Secondly, you two have some pretty astute friends.
We’re thrilled to post photos of this home because it's proof of a budget-conscious remodel and we hope it provides a fond adieu...

Drew and Ernie put a lot of elbow grease into this place. As evidenced by the BEFORE photos, they lived and worked through a complete kitchen and guest room remodel. We’d like to showcase the fact that they kept the budget down, by taking advantage of IKEA and also thinking outside box, using salvaged materials.
But now Ernie and Drew are moving! Between the time they sent in these photos and the time we finally posted them, they’ve listed and sold their condo (in less than a week!), a feat to be commended in this market. If you happen to notice any discrepancies in the tour, either furniture or floral, it’s due to the fact that the photos were taken over time and these two are busy packing up shop. We only hope the new homeowners appreciate their stylish DIY efforts.
Good luck on your next place, Ernie and Drew! We look forward to seeing what you create.

Thanks Ernie and Drew!
grrrr, these animated ads are killing the slideshow and thumbnail feature on my computer. If I'm quick enough and the image of the condo loads before the ad, it works. If not, I have to hit back on the browser and try again.

OK, I'm not being suckered into viewing anymore slideshows until I know for sure this problem has been fixed. I'm tired of going in with hope and anticipation only to have my dreams of viewing the slideshow squashed again. AT, ARE YOU LISTENING TO US????? Why not go back to the old format until you get the bugs out of this one? At least I could see something on Windows/IE with that.

I can only assume that the ads have become more important than the content, since the ads show up perfectly well when the content on these disappears.

Great looking place!!! Love that salvaged factory window. The kitchen remodel and the bath are beautiful. Sleek and gorgeous!
Erinie and Drew, sorry you have to deal with the comments focusing on the slideshows, that's a bummer. You should be reading was an amazing loft you have!
But seriously, AT fix the slideshow feature!!! It sucks! You constantly have to scroll down to see the photos, the ads and big fat bar with the previous and next links are really distracting and annoying. Also there's something about the white background that I find really distracting when I look at the photos. I have a harder time focusing. When it was black the photos were the showcase, now it is just messy and it does not give the homeowner the attention they deserve!

People, people: get Firefox. Then download an Add-on called Adblocker. You will see no ads, though the slideshow will still require some annoying scrolling to get the main image in frame.
There are a lot of cool ideas here if you like extremely tough minimalist design. Everything here seems rigidly disciplined, which can come off as a bit harsh, but the remodel is superbly executed and I think there are enough creative flourishes to mark this out as a livable home. I'd prefer to see more luxurious textiles and expressive artwork played against the restrained backdrop, but Ernie and Drew's more minimalist approach is enjoyable to observe at a distance.

I would love to know the story behind that giant window wall!!

amed studio - Firefox is wonderful on my Mac at home--I can view the slideshows very well there--and I'll check out Adblocker. However, I, like undoubtedly many, can't use Firefox at work or download any programs at work, so we're all stuck. Guess we'll just get back to work.

very austere but beautiful. what are the names of the crate and barrel couches (the one in the living room) and the 2 in the library? thanks!

*I second art's question*
I too would love to know the story behind the giant window wall. (cost, transport, installation, things you wish you knew before you undertook the project?)
you guys did an awesome job! You both have serious vision..the before shots speak volumes! Thanks for sharing.

I love your bed. How is that IKEA? What did you do to it? Also I was so inspired by your kitchen remodel. I have been toying with the idea of using IKEA but did not think it would fit in with my Viking appliances. Did you have to tweek your cabinetry at all? Have any good contractors you could recommend?

LOVE the kitchen - I can't wait until I remodel and steal some of these ideas.
Wonderful place thanks for sharing!

this feels so strange - I actually feel melancholy when I looked at the first 5 photos and decided not to go on. I wonder if it's all the monochromatic grey going on.

Lovely place. I'm sure your next place will be just as great, if not more. I'm a fan of the greys, and I'm so glad it's not yet another all-white pad.

Beautiful!I love the before and after of the kitchen. You guys did an amazing job, it's no wonder that it sold so quickly even in this market. I too would like to know more about the ikea bed.

Love it! Great furniture selection!
What is the white plastic, weird shaped chair? I have seen it in a few slide shows.
view gttim's profile
gttim,
It's the Eames La Chaise. $8K from Vitra, or $900 as a reproduction from where these guys bought it.

Amazing remodel. I love to see people use inexpensive materials and come out with a product that looks like a million bucks!!

thanks everyone for all the kind words about our loft!!!
we will try to answer as many of the questions posted as we can. (we are moving in a 10days).
the Crate & Barrel couch in the living room is called the Cannes sofa and is currently still available. the ones in the guest room have been discontinued but are called TogetherAlone.
the bed has also been discontinued from Ikea. it is about 9 years old. we didn't alter it in any way. it was available with grey, green & white covers.
the story behind the window wall in the library.
we bought it at Salvage One. it is actually 2 separate pieces that was cleaned up and put together to form 1 large window. we also had to have glass cut and installed.
the windows cost about $500. the glass cost $500. it took a lot of elbow grease to clean and make the window frame usable as it had all the old caulking and was dirty and a bit rusty. the contractor just built a wall around it. it was pretty easy as we had ripped out the previous walls of the room and we had a big open space to work with.
finally, the kitchen.
we just used stock cabinets from Ikea. the upper cabinets just happen to fit exactly in our space within about 2in.
they still stock the stainless cabinet fronts but are available in limited sizes. the stainless lower cabinets were also used in both bathrooms.
i hoped we answer most of the questions.

Ernie and Drew, I'm so glad to see your place on AT! I'm the lucky, lucky buyer so yes, I really do "appreciate their stylish DIY efforts"! The renovation is everything I would have wanted, but didn't know how to do on my own. I feel incredibly lucky that you accepted my offer, and rest assured that you're leaving your condo in very grateful hands. Come back and visit any time! All the best with your new home.

Salvage one! Awesome. I wonder what the chances of them having any other remnants like that are? I wouldn't want to steal your idea though. Ok, I would but I probably can't! It's a tough one, because you'd have to use a wall that doesn't have any electrical service obviously.
It really is a beautiful loft--you did a tremendous job. A congratulations to the new owner!

Love the salvaged window, and love the movie screen. Great for making a living room where the TV goes away.

I'm now viewing this at home on Mac/Firefox and I can see it just fine.
I really like this--you did such a great job. I wouldn't have guessed the kitchen was IKEA. Please show us your next place when you've put it together.

Fabulous! Thanks for the detailed info!
AT: Please, please, fix the slide shows! On my Mac/Firefox, the slide show doesn't run, the white background sucks and the stupid box pushes the pictures out of the browser window. Whoever re-"designed" that should give their money back.

Amazing. That factory window looks terrific. A steel window like that would be incredibly expensive to buy new/ recreate.

Terrific job and terrific story. Great to see that the lucky new resident is an ATer. I just wanna cry....
p.s. to AT. MOST of us really appreciate all you do and the service you provide. Ya sure can't beat the price.... ~:o) Don't let the whiners get you down. In the greater scheme, everyone brings joy. Some when they arrive, some when they leave.

Well done. This look (clean, elegant, warm) isn't easy to achieve without becoming too catalog-y or sterile. The color palette and use of different materials (natural wood, exposed brick, brushed metals) are beautiful in this space. Loooove it.

I want to change my bed and like the Ikea frame idea. could some confirm if it is to buy the frame and then upholstered the frame and maybe do a headboard from scratch?
Tks,
