Harmony & Vance's Newlywed Nest
House Tour

Name: Harmony Johnstone-Reeser and Vance Reeser
Location: Siloam Springs, Arkansas
Size: 900 square feet
Years lived in: 6 months

You may remember the recent tour of Heidi and Kirk's place (sent to us by photographer Hope Johnstone, Heidi's sister) - it was of a wonderful mid-century house in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Well, either Siloam Springs is a hot bed of interesting, cozy design or it just runs in Hope's family - she's sent us another tour, this time of the apartment that her other sister, Harmony, shares with her husband...

This new tour is a fun glimpse inside the home of two creative people (a chef and a graphic designer) starting their lives together. We love all the books and treasures on display and the vignettes are definitely built with an artists eye. The vintage furnishings lend a comfortable, funky feel that works well with the architectural details such as the tin ceilings and exposed brick. And, while this space has its challenges (a triangular living room has got to be one of the harder layouts to manage that we can imagine!) it is very special to the couple - Harmony tells us that it is where Vance proposed. So sweet!

AT Survey:

Our style: Relaxed and Bright

Inspiration: Boxes of Crayons, old colorful quilts, vintage movie
posters, and we live above a great vintage home store, Amandromeda, so there is endless inspiration downstairs.

Favorite Element: Getting to wake up and seeing the original tin ceiling every morning. The bedrooms were originally offices so the doors still have the glass windows on them. Vance proposed in to me in our home and that makes it a great place.

Biggest Challenge: The triangular shape of the living space. Mama always said, "work with what ya got," and so we're doing that. We’ve separated the living room into many sitting areas: Reading, sitting and screening area for movies, one of our favorite hobbies. Having a triangle to work with became a fun challenge since now we have lots of seating for parties and guests.

What Friends Say: "It's so you guys!" (There are other historic buildings next to us and pigeons that hang out on those roofs) “That pigeon is looking at me!”

Biggest Embarrassment: No storage space for laundry supplies and brooms. We have a washer/dryer combo that was built into a closet so there is a door that covers that area but we keep the cleaning supplies and tools out in the open next to that closet.

Proudest DIY: Our place was totally re-done before we moved in so the only upgrade we had to do was to hang a shower curtain. We are pretty pathetic with power tools so that was a very proud moment and a fun project for us as newlyweds.

Biggest Indulgence: Yard Sales are a big deal in our town, they happen every weekend and there isn’t a road you can drive on that you wouldn’t see one. We always come home with something fun to add to our home. This has been a favorite pastime of mine; this is where most of my treasures have been found.

Best advice: Make your home a place you like coming home to.

Dream source: The World's longest yard sale that goes from Ohio to Alabama. We have never been, but it sounds amazing.

Nice place. Those brick walls are stunning! One small suggestion: that (banana?) plant in the black plastic pot beside the bookcase ... maybe look for a nice cache-pot while you're on the yardsale circuit?

this place is cute. as someone from arkansas, with a mother that still lives there, I can say she has that exact leopard candle in the house.

I like the impromptu slipcovered seating. I might try that in my own place, as I've been thinking of getting a slipcover for my love seat.

Another great one! And it looks lived in. I also noticed the sheet-covered couches, as I have been struggling to find a way to cover up our couches. It looks much nicer than I would have expected! Good news for me!

This reminds me of a dear friend from Arkansas who also has excellent home decor taste, so I think it might be something in the water.
