This is a beautiful house! I especially love the drywall build-outs over the block - great details! The kitchen cabinets are also fantastic!

Indy Jeffrey, I started feeling stressed and tense just READING your comment. Take a lavender-infused bath or go find a puppy to kiss - just petting an animal can lower your heart rate and blood pressure. Whew!

I'm 85% sure that I'm about to buy a foreclosure/investment property that's a total wreck, needing to be completely gutted, so I'm STOKED to see some DIY building action! Love the ceilings, the brick on the walls, the industrial fixtures, the furniture...is that concrete flooring in the kitchen/dining area? I'm .97423 seconds away from drooling on the keyboard here. The bathroom sinks/vanities are RAD. Is it basically just a credenza/whatever with a different top and sink installed? The only hangup is if that is carpeting I spy in the bedrooms. If it is, I might cry. I'm vehemently opposed to carpet of any kind. Blame the 3 dogs. (PS. I'm in Texas and hear "den" regularly)

I think they're a lot of frustreted copy editors out their. Or maybe just too many good writers who doesn't need editing.

I really like the house.

Ditto on the drywall with exposed block. I see little tricks like that as making something out of nothing. Same with the skylight on the patio. You're not adding anything extra just manipulating the essential materials. I'm constantly trying to learn things like that.

I kept thinking "honey" when looking at the kitchen. Then I read, "fit for a queen" and I thought "queen bee" which really drove home the honey thought.

It's a really great modern house with lots of character and warmth.

What was the purpose of the one course of 4" block? You can see it two photos up.

The kitchen is absolutely adorable. This kitchen looks like it would be a good layout for a rowhouse.

I totally agree with thekatieway about the foreclosures. I've been spying a few 3 story basement (2700 sq. ft) with the cheapest one starting under 100k! Don't worry the entire 2700 wouldn't all be for me, I'll rent out one of the floors out to a friend (or other worthy tenant).

Very unique and "outside the box" design for the burbs. The Worden's have made a very cool statement with a nice mix of materials to acheive a warm feeling but still keeping edginess with the exposed CMU. Great house, looking forward to future endeavours!

I really love that Ilmari Tapiovaara lighting over the dining table.

I love the wood color on the kitchen cabs. Very nice. The selection of bright accent colors really brings out warmth inside instead of the sterileness I've seen in some modern homes. How are the cement walls for heating and AC costs?

Wow this home is beautiful! Hard to believe this home is in Kansas it looks like something from the coast.
My wife and I are in agreement that the home is a great fusion of what is wanted by both men and women in a home.

Oh, I am just drooling. This home is everything I would ever want in a space. Beautifully, beautifully done. The bathrooms are gorgeous. I just love it all. As for the copy editing comments...jeez...the site isn't called "Grammar Therapy."

I am so surprised everyone loves this so much. To me, it feels like the pictures were taken before anyone actually moved in... where is the evidence of human habitation? It is nice to look at I suppose, but only like a magazine shoot is... I like a home to show some of the character of the people who live there, and this one just doesn't do that.

Usually houses in this style seem antiseptic, but for some reason, the effect here is organic and warm. I have hated plastic for a long time, but this place reminds me that even plastic can be natural. It's a very striking effect.

I feel the same way about another recent post: a Wisconsin farmhouse with a curved roof.

I love the house.My question regards the flooring. In my country people don't use architectural concrete for flooring at homes but I like it a lot. Is there any way to cast them myself? And how to avoid cracking?

Gorgeous build. I'm redoing my apartment, and I'm replacing a fireplace with a wood stove - I love yours - what is it? It looks like one of the Danish stoves imported by Wittus - maybe the trendline?

Beautiful modern home. Love the high ceilings, the furnishings, and the mix of modern with mid-century. The home has a very warm feel to it. The attention to the little details is also great.

The picture of the outside of the house and garage all lit up is amazing. I love the use of polygal that trims the top of the garage.

A. - We designed the pieces ourselves and were influenced by mid century credenzas from George Nelson and Florence Knoll.

A. - By adding one course of 4” block we were able to create a nice visual break.

A. - We used a light weight block because it had a higher R-value and we filled the cores with a granular Perlite insulation…that gets you to about R-11. On the interior we insulated the furred walls with R-13 as well. There are so many little things to take into account….taking advantage of passive solar heat gain, radiant heated floors, windows, 2nd story construction, roof, etc….We figure the entire envelope averages around R-19.

A. - Very good. In the summer it is very cool…costs are much lower that a traditional home and in the winter we have yet to turn on the radiant heating system that was installed up front…..All in all the home is incredibly efficient.

A. - We chose SCAN from a local supplier…the installed cost was around $2200.

I liked the clean walls and all the open space. It is a simple but very practical home. I love all the windows to allow lots of sunlight in. Enjoyed seeing the artwork, too. Wonderful job!
